When disposing of batteries, follow the instructions given

in the section "Protecting the environment".

Do not attempt to charge damaged batteries.
Chargers
Use your BLACK+DECKER charger only to charge the
u
battery in the tool with which it was supplied. Other batter-
ies could burst, causing personal injury and damage.
Never attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries.
u
Have defective cords replaced immediately.
u
Do not expose the charger to water.
u
Do not open the charger.
u

Do not probe the charger.
u
The charger is intended for indoor use only.

Read the instruction manual before use.
Electrical safety
#
Your charger is double insulated; therefore no
earth wire is required. Always check that the
mains voltage corresponds to the voltage on the
rating plate. Never attempt to replace the charger
unit with a regular mains plug.
If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the
u
manufacturer or an authorised BLACK+DECKER Service
Centre in order to avoid a hazard.

Charging tool (fig.A)
The battery needs to be charged before first use and whenev-
er it fails to produce sufficient power on jobs that were easily
done before. The battery may become warm while charging;
this is normal and does not indicate a problem.
Warning! Only use the charger provided to charge the tool.
To charge the battery, insert the charger plug (7) into the
u
charging port (8).

Plug in the charger.
u
Leave the tool connected to the charger for 4 hours.
u
The charger may hum and become warm while charging; this
is normal and does not indicate a problem.
Warning! Do not charge the battery at ambient temperatures
below 10 °C or above 40 °C. Recommended charging tem-
perature: approx. 24 °C.
Assembly
Warning! Before assembly, engage the lock off collar as
described in figure C.
Fitting the shaft to the motor unit
The shaft (4) will only fit onto the motor unit (3) one way.
u
Push until it clicks into place as shown in figure B.
u
Your tool can be used with or without the extension shaft
u
(4) fitted as illustrated in figure B.
Fitting and removing a screwdriver bit (Fig. B)
To fit a screwdriver bit (9), push it into the bit holder (5a or
u
5b) until it locates.
To remove a screwdriver bit, pull it straight from the bit
u
holder.
Use
Warning! Let the tool work at its own pace. Do not overload.
Forward/reverse/lock off collar (Fig. C)
The forward/reverse/lock off collar (2) allows you to use
u
the tool as a regular manual screwdriver. You can give
an extra twist to firmly tighten a screw or to loosen a very
tight screw.
To activate the lock off feature, turn the collar (2) to the
u
centre position.
To release the lock off, turn the collar (2) to the right or left.
u
Operating the tool (Fig. D, E)
To tighten a screw, turn the forward/reverse/lock off collar
u
(2) to the right then keep the on/off switch (1) depressed.
To loosen a screw, turn the forward/reverse/lock off collar
u
(2) to the left and keep the on/off switch (1) depressed.
To switch the tool off, release the on/off switch (1).
u
While the on/off switch (1) is depressed, the work light (6)
u
will be activated.
The work light will still operate when the tool is in the
u
centre (lock off position).
Hints for optimum use
Always use the correct type and size of screwdriver bit.
u
If screws are difficult to tighten, try applying a small
u
amount of washing liquid or soap as a lubricant.
Use the forward/reverse/lock off collar in the centre posi-
u
tion to loosen very tight screws or to firmly tighten screws.
