Operating Instructions
Read and understand these instructions before installing, operating, or maintai-
ning the equipment.
!
DANGER
Hazardous voltage.
Will cause death or serious injury.
Disconnect power before working
on equipment.
Reliable functioning of the equipment is only ensured with certified compon-
ents.
The devices must be installed in a switchgear cabinet with the IP32,
IP43 or IP54 degree of protection, depending on the ambient conditions.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
The products described herein are designed to be components of a customized
machinery safety-oriented control system. A complete safety-oriented system
may include safety sensors, evaluators, actuators and signaling components. It
is the responsibility of each company to conduct its own evaluation of the effec-
tiveness of the safety system by trained individuals. Siemens AG, its subsidia-
ries and affiliates (collectively "Siemens") are not in a position to evaluate all of
the characteristics of a given machine or product or machine not designed by
Siemens.
Siemens accepts no liability for any recommendation that may be implied or sta-
ted herein. The warranty contained in the contract of sale by Siemens is the sole
warranty of Siemens. Any statements contained herein do not create new war-
ranties or modify existing ones.
Application
The safety monitor is used in an AS-Interface bus system for monitoring protec-
tive equipment such as EMERGENCY STOP switches. It is assigned to safety
category 4 in accordance with EN 954-1.
According to IEC 61508, the safety monitor can be used in loops up to SIL3. The
PFD value of the complete loop must be calculated by the user.

Important! Depending on the choice of safety components to be used the safety
system as a whole may also be assigned to a lower safety category.
Functions and instructions for connection
For details refer to all the information in the description of the configuration
software and the technical description of the device. These documents contain
all the necessary information on installation, configuration, operation and main-
tenance of the safety monitor.
Information on electrical installation
Electrical installation is to be performed by trained expert personnel. During
installation care must be taken that supply and signal leads and also the
AS-Interface bus cable are laid separately from power cables. In the switchgear
cabinet it must be ensured that appropriate spark-quenching equipment is used
with contactors. Where drive motors and brakes are used, attention must be
paid to the installation instructions in the corresponding operating instructions.
Please note that the maximum line length of the AS-Interface bus cable is 100m.
Cables above that length require the use of an AS-Interface repeater.

Important!
It is essential to adhere to the prescribed fusing; this is the only
way of guaranteeing safe disconnection in the event of a fault.
