WARNING
Whenever you perform an installation, before any journey and during
longer road trips, make sure that all locking mechanisms, bicycle
carriers and tensioning straps of the rear-mounted bicycle rack are
secured correctly and retighten them if necessary. Replace defective
or worn parts of the rear-mounted bicycle rack immediately. The
anchorages could come loose of their own accord, and the
rear-mounted bicycle rack with the mounted bicycles could come
loose from your vehicle, thereby injuring yourself and others and/or
causing damage to property, including damage to your vehicle.
Repeat these checks at regular intervals depending on the road
surface conditions, but at least after every 310 miles (500 km) of
continuous use. There is a risk of an accident.
G
WARNING
Always observe the maximum permissible payload of 154.3 lbs
(70 kg) for a maximum of 4 bicycles on the rear-mounted bicycle rack
and always observe the permissible gross vehicle weight (see the
vehicle Operator's Manual). The rear-mounted bicycle rack and/or
the bicycles mounted to it may otherwise come loose from your
vehicle, thereby injuring you and other persons or causing an
accident.
Note that the vehicle dimensions (width, height, length) change as a
result of the rear-mounted bicycle rack and the attached bicycles.
Important
Vehicles with a rear window that must be opened separately
(EASY-PACK tailgate): Do not open the rear window with the
rear-mounted bicycle rack installed. The rear window could collide
with the rear-mounted bicycle rack and/or the affixed bicycles and
be damaged.

Installing the rear-mounted bicycle rack
Have a second person assist you with the installation of the
rear-mounted bicycle rack. Secure the bicycles against slipping/tipping.
Preparations for the vehicle:
1.
Clean the whole working area on the vehicle with soapy water and
use a soft cloth to rub it dry.
2.
Remove plastic rivets (10).
3.
Remove soundproofing covers (11).
Note
Store the plastic rivets and soundproofing covers in a clean and safe
place.
Important
First, tighten the hexagon socket screw only until hand-tight.
4.
Screw tooth lock washer (2) and holder (3) firmly onto the vehicle
using hexagon socket screw (4) as illustrated.
Important
It is no longer possible to move the protective film after it has been
affixed.
5.
Open the tailgate slightly. Attach protective film (5) to the tailgate,
so that it is hanging over the side edges of the tailgate by
approximately 0.4 inch (1 cm). Fold back protective film (5) around
the edges of the tailgate and close the tailgate.
Distance (X): 3.1 inch (80 mm)
