Fitting the ball rod
PLEASE NOTE!
The ball rod may only be fitted when it is under tension. Please check the current state of the ball rod!
The ball rod is under tension when
·
the white marking - arrow 1 - is in the end area of the red field.
·
the hand wheel is clearly standing off from the ball rod, so that a gap exists between hand wheel and ball rod - arrow 2 -.
·
the key is in the lock, the lock is unlocked and the key cannot be removed.
·
the locking bolt - arrow 3 - is inserted in the ball head drilling, as shown in the illustration.
Only in this state may the ball rod be correctly and safely attached to the vehicle.

If the ball rod is not under tension
If the ball rod is not under tension, proceed as follows:
The ball rod must be unlocked.
Hold the ball rod securely with the left hand and with the right hand pull the hand wheel in arrow direction 1. Then turn the hand
wheel in the tensioned position up to the stop in arrow direction 2.
The ball rod is now under tension (see 2.2).
PLEASE NOTE!
If the ball rod cannot be put under tension as described above, you should not use the ball rod. Please contact your
authorised repair shop.

Mounting ball rod to vehicle
Insert the ball rod, in its tensioned state, into the locating sleeve - arrow direction 1 - and push firmly upwards - arrow direction 2 -
until ball rod engages.
Turn key clockwise to ensure that the ball rod is locked (refer to figure). Remove key. The key can only be removed when locked.
ATTENTION!
The ball rod is only correctly fitted when the white marking is in the green marked area, the gap between hand wheel and
ball rod no longer exists, the lock is locked and the key removed.
Store the sealing plug in vehicle (only H1).

Safety Checks

For safety reasons you must check that the ball rod is properly attached as follows:
1. The white marking - arrow 1 - is clearly in the green marked area of the ball rod.
2. The hand wheel - arrow 2 - butts up to the ball rod (no gap).
3. The ball rod is locked, the key is removed and the key slot is in the position as shown in the illustration alongside - arrow 3 -.
4. Check secure position of ball rod in locating sleeve (no clearance) by shaking it strongly with your hand!

PLEASE NOTE!
If any of these 4 points is not complied with, the trailer coupling should not be used.
An accident could occur, please contact your authorised repair shop.

Removing ball rod
Insert key and unlock the lock.
Hold the ball rod securely with the left hand and with the right hand pull the hand wheel out in arrow direction 1. Then turn the hand
wheel in the tensioned position up to the stop in arrow direction 2, hold in this position until the ball rod has been removed from
below.
PLEASE NOTE!
Store detached ball rod safely in vehicle for transportation.
Never leave ball rod unsecured in the boot. If the car brakes suddenly, the ball rod may not only endanger passengers, but
may also cause damage in the boot.
Insert sealing plug - arrow - into locating sleeve in order to keep it clean (only H1).

Reminder
PLEASE NOTE!
According to Directive 70/222/EC the number plate must be completely visible. When driving without a trailer the ball rod
should be removed, if the ball is higher than the bottom edge of the number plate, as shown in the illustration.
