3.0 INSTALLATION
3.1 PLANNING: Plan your fall protection system prior to installation of the High Capacity (HC) Davit Base. Account for all
factors that may affect your safety before, during and after a fall. Consider all requirements defined in Section 2 and Table
1 to determine the correct fasteners and placement for mounting the HC Davit Base on the anchorage structure.
• Anchorage: Anchorage on which the HC Davit Base is mounted must meet the Anchorage Load requirements
specified in Section 2 and Moment Load and Vertical Load requirements in Table 1.
• Fastener Selection: Figure 3 shows mounting hole locations on the HC Davit Base. Select fasteners appropriate for
the anchorage structure and material thickness (B).
• HC Davit Base Placement: Figure 3 illustrates placement of the HC Davit Base on a vertical surface. Offset the
HC Davit Base from any edge of the surface per the fastener manufacturer's recommended setback distance (B).
Install the HC Davit Base vertically, with a tolerance of plus or minus 1° from vertical.
3.2 INSTALLING THE HC DAvIT BASE: Figures 4 and 5 illustrate the two methods of installation for the HC Deck Mount
Davit Base. Mount the HC Davit Base on the horizontal surface of a concrete or steel structure meeting the strength
requirements of the HC Davit Base and recommended fasteners:
METHOD 1 (FIGURE 4)
1. Drill through the horizontal surface a hole 200 mm (7.88 in) in diameter. The top mounting plate should rest firmly on
the ground above the hole.
2. Secure the HC Davit Base in the drilled hole by placing the bottom mounting plate over the fasteners on the opposite
side of the hole. Secure the bottom mounting plate in this location with the provided washers and nuts for each
fastener. Torque each fastener to 102 N-m (75 ft-lbs).
3. After installation of the HC Davit Base, and before installing the HC Davit in the HC Davit Base, inspect the
HC Davit Base per the 'Competent Person' inspection points in the "Inspection and Maintenance Log". If inspection
reveals an unsafe or defective condition, remove the HC Davit Base from service, mark effectively or destroy to
prevent accidental use, and contact 3M regarding replacement.
4. Install the HC Davit in the HC Davit Base per the instructions included with the HC Davit.
METHOD 2 (FIGURE 5)
1. Drill through the horizontal surface a hole 140 mm (5.50 in) in diameter. The top mounting plate should rest firmly on
the ground above the hole.
2. Drill one hole 18 mm (0.69 in) in diameter for each of the top mounting plate's fasteners around the outside of the
hole drilled in the previous step. Use the top mounting plate as a guide for drilling each of the holes.
3. Secure the HC Davit Base in the drilled hole by first sliding each fastener into the top mounting plate and then
through the holes drilled in the previous step. Then, secure the bottom mounting plate over these fasteners on the
opposite side of the hole with the provided washers and nuts for each fastener. Torque each fastener to 102 N-m (75
ft-lbs).
4. After installation of the HC Davit Base, and before installing the HC Davit in the HC Davit Base, inspect the
HC Davit Base per the 'Competent Person' inspection points in the "Inspection and Maintenance Log". If inspection
reveals an unsafe or defective condition, remove the HC Davit Base from service, mark effectively or destroy to
prevent accidental use, and contact 3M regarding replacement.
5. Install the HC Davit in the HC Davit Base per the instructions included with the HC Davit.
4.0 USE
4.1 BEFORE EACH USE: Verify that your work area and Personal Fall Arrest System (PFAS) meet all criteria defined in
Section 2 and a formal Rescue Plan is in place. Inspect the HC Davit Base per the 'User' inspection points defined on the
"Inspection and Maintenance Log". If inspection reveals an unsafe or defective condition, do not use the system. Remove
the system from service and destroy, or contact 3M regarding replacement or repair.
5.0 INSPECTION
5.1 INSPECTION FREQUENCY: The HC Davit Base must be inspected at the intervals defined in Section 1. Inspection
procedures are described in the "Inspection and Maintenance Log". Inspect all other components of the Fall Protection
System per the frequencies and procedures defined in the manufacturer's instructions.
5.2 DEFECTS: If inspection reveals an unsafe or defective condition, remove the HC Davit Base from service immediately and
contact 3M regarding replacement or repair. Do not attempt to repair the Fall Arrest System. Order new labels for the HC
Davit Base if the existing labels are defective.

Authorized Repairs Only: Only 3M or parties authorized in writing may make repairs to this equipment.
5.3 PRODUCT LIFE: The functional life of the Fall Arrest System is determined by work conditions and maintenance. As long
as the product passes inspection criteria, it may remain in service.
6.0 MAINTENANCE, SERVICING, STORAGE
6.1 CLEANING: Periodically clean the HC Davit Base's metal components with a soft brush, warm water, and a mild soap
solution. Ensure parts are thoroughly rinsed with clean water.
7
