unit's brake function may not work properly. (see Fig. 4d)
Attention: The OHM must always be installed at the first
protection point used. If the OHM is used at the second or even
a higher intermediate protection point, it will not brake the rope
at all (see Fig. 4e).
On a roof edge, ensure that the OHM has enough space to be
activated, as the braking function may otherwise not work
properly. (see Fig. 4f)
The OHM may be attached exclusively to rock anchor straps,
adhesive anchors and rings. Use of mobile protection is not allowed.
(see Fig. 4g)
Fig. 5: Loosening the unit:
If the unit has been activated unintentionally or if it is to be
restored to the rest position upon relieving the tension on the
rope, it is enough to shake the rope. If no load is acting on the
climbing rope, the OHM will then drop back from the activated
position to the rest position.
Fig. 6: Correct insertion of rope
The unit must be opened to insert the rope. Do so by opening the
snap lock and then turning the side plate. The unit can be opened
only if it is unloaded. (Fig. 6a/b)
The correct feed direction of the rope corresponds to the
pictorials on the device and must be checked before every use.
(see Fig. 6c)
Then close the OHM. (see Fig. 6d) Ensure that both the unit and
the snap lock are closed completely. (see Fig. 6e) Be absolutely
sure to avoid falling into an open OHM. (see Fig. 6f/g)
Installation at the first protection point:
Edelrid recommends following any of the three following variants
when fastening the OHM to the first protection point
a)
Fig. 7: The first protection point is a rock anchor:
Before starting to climb, insert the rope and fit the OHM with the
prescribed express sling, attach it to the harness. Upon reaching
the first protection point, attach the express sling to the anchor.
Attention: Be sure the rope runs straight: The climbing rope must
run out at the front of the OHM (see Fig. 7 a-c)
b)
Fig. 8: The first protection point is a fixed express sling with
screwed joint:
Before starting to climb, insert the rope and fit the OHM with the
prescribed express sling, attach it to the harness. Upon reaching
the first protection point, attach the express sling to the screwed
joint of the fixed express sling. Attention: Be sure the rope runs
straight: The climbing rope must run out at the front of the OHM
c)
Fig. 9: The OHM has been pre-installed at the first protection
point:
A pre-installed OHM can be opened likewise by activating the
snap lock and turning, then attach the rope from the climbing
position.
Attention: Be sure the rope runs correctly through the OHM.
Inadmissible use of the OHM.
Fig. 10: Attention: Do not attach karabiners or other non-textile
elements to the OHM!
Fig. 11: Attention: Never feed a rope or other textile elements
through the karabiner eye on the unit!
Attention: The OHM only increases the friction in the system and
does not replace belaying by a partner.
