• Make sure there is no flammable material within a 0.5m radius of the device.
• Have a qualified electrician carry out the electric connection.
• Connect the device to the mains with the power plug. Don't connect it to a dimming pack.
• The installation has to be approved by an expert before the device is taken into service.
5. Use
The device has 4 operation modes:
a) Single Mode
The device reacts to the music through the built-in microphone. All DIP switches should be set to OFF.
b) Master/slave Mode
If you have several devices then you can link them together and make them move synchronously to the rhythm of the
music. This operation mode is controlled by the master device.
Select one single master device by placing DIP switch 10 in the ON position. The built-in microphone of the master
unit will now drive all slave units. Put DIP switches 1 and 11 of all the other units in the ON position to select them as
slave units. Connect the master and slave units using the provided DMX cable.
In this mode, the built-in microphone of the master unit controls all devices and they will change colour rhythmically
and synchronously.
c) Program Mode
Place DIP switches 9 and 10 in the ON position to make the device run its internal program.
d) DMX Mode
All devices should be given a DMX start address when using a DMX signal, so that the correct device responds to
the correct control signals. This digital start address is the channel number from which the device starts to "listen" to
the digital control information sent out by the DMX controller. Allocation of this start address is achieved by setting
the correct number with the DIP switch located at the back of the VDP250SC6/2.
If you prefer, you can set the same start address for all the devices or a group of devices. You can also set an
individual start address per device.
If you set the same address, all the units will start to "listen" to the same control signal from the same channel
number. In other words: changing the settings of one channel will affect all the devices simultaneously.
If you set a different address, each unit will start to "listen" to the channel number you have set, based on the number
of control channels. In other words: changing the settings of one channel will affect the selected device only.
In the case of the VDP250SC6/2, which is a 6-channel device, you will have to set the start address of the first unit to
1, the second unit to 7 (1 + 6), the third to 13 (7 + 6), etc.
The DMX start address of the device is determined by the first 9 DIP switches. The encoding is binary: DIP switch 1
has value 1, DIP switch 2 has value 2, DIP switch 3 has value 4, DIP switch 4 has value 8, etc...
For instance, if the start address should be 95 then the settings would be (for the first 9 switches): 111110100 (1 + 2
+ 4 + 8 + 16 + 0 + 64 + 0 + 0 = 95).
The LED next to the DIP switches indicates the status of the DMX signal:.
LED flashes: DMX signal present
LED stays off: no input DMX signal
