Operating Instructions Safety System CES-AR
Correct Use
The Coded Electronic Safety switches series CES
are safety devices for monitoring movable safety
guards.
In combination with a separating safety guard, this
safety component prevents dangerous machine
movements from being performed for as long as the
safety guard is open. A stop command is triggered
if the safety guard is opened during the dangerous
machine function.
Before safety switches are used, a risk assessment
must be performed on the machine, e.g., in accor-
dance with:
EN ISO 13489-1, Safety of machinery. Safety re-
lated parts of control systems. General principles
for design
EN ISO 14121, Safety of machinery. Risk assess-
ment. Principles
IEC 62061, Safety of machinery – Functional safety
of safety-related electrical, electronic and program-
mable electronic control systems.
Correct use includes compliance with the relevant
requirements for installation and operation, for
example
EN ISO 13489-1, Safety of machinery. Safety re-
lated parts of control systems. General principles
for design
EN 1088, Safety of machinery. Interlocking devices
associated with guards. Principles for design and
selection
EN 60204-1, Safety of machinery. Electrical equip-
ment of machines. General requirements
EN 60947-5-3, Specification for low-voltage switch-
gear and controlgear. Control circuit devices and
switching elements. Requirements for proximity
devices with defined behaviour under fault condi-
tions (PDF)
The safety switch must be used only in conjunction
with the designated actuators from EUCHNER. On
the use of different actuators, EUCHNER provides
no warranty for safe function.
Connection of several devices in a CES-AR switch
chain is permitted only using devices intended for
series connection with the CES-AR. Please check this
in the operating instructions of the respective device.
A combination of other CES devices or devices from
other manufacturers is not allowed.
A maximum of 20 safety switches CES-AR are allowed
to be operated in series.
Important: The user is responsible for the integra-
tion of the device in a safe overall system. For this
purpose, the overall system must be validated, e.g.
in accordance with EN ISO 13849-2.
In the case of the series connection of up to 20 CES-
AR devices, the Performance Level is PL e.
In the case of series connections of up to 10 de-
vices, the PFH
is 2.64 x 10
-8
d
In the case of series connections of more than 10
devices, the PFH
can be calculated according to
d
one of the stated methods in EN ISO 13849-1:2008,
section 4.5.1.
If the simplified method according to section 6.3
EN ISO 13849:2008-12 is used for validation, the
Performance Level (PL) may be reduced if several
devices are connected one after the other.
If a product data sheet is included with the product,
the information on the data sheet applies in case of
discrepancies with the operating instructions.

Exclusion of Liability and Warranty
In case of failure to comply with the conditions for
correct use stated above, or if the safety instructions
are not followed, or if any servicing is not performed
as required, liability will be excluded and the war-
ranty void.
General Safety Instructions
The device is only allowed to be installed and placed
in operation by authorized personnel
who are familiar with the correct handling of safety
components,
who are familiar with the applicable regulations on
health and safety
and who have read and understood the operating
instructions and the system manual.
The safety function of the system while the machine
is in operation can no longer be ensured if the device
is connected incorrectly or used incorrectly.
Prior to use, read the operating instructions and the
system manual on the CD-ROM supplied, and keep
these in a safe place.
Ensure the operating instructions and the system
manual are always available during mounting, setup
and servicing.
EUCHNER cannot provide any warranty in relation
to the readability of the CD for the storage period
required. For this reason you should archive a printed
copy of the system manual. If you should lose
the operating instructions or the system manual,
you can download these documents from www.
EUCHNER.de.
System manual on CD-ROM
Each device is supplied with a system manual on
CD-ROM; this manual contains detailed information
on the overall system. The following system require-
ments must be met to be able to open or print the
manual:
PC with PDF Reader installed
CD-ROM drive
Opening and printing the documents
Important: the autoplay function for the drive must
be enabled (see operating system help) and you will
need a PDF Reader that can open PDF files from
version 4.

Mounting, setup and troubleshooting
For detailed instructions on mounting, setup and
troubleshooting, please refer to the system manual.
Electrical Connection
For detailed information on the electrical connection,
please refer to the system manual.
Important: To achieve the stated category accord-
ing to EN ISO 13849, both safety outputs must
always be evaluated.
Do not use a control system with pulsing or switch
off the pulsing function in your control system.
Take note of the connection example in the system
manual.
Inspection and Service
Danger! Loss of the safety function because of
damage to the system. In case of damage, the re-
lated component must be replaced completely. The
replacement of individual parts of a component (e. g.
parts of the evaluation unit) is not allowed.
Regular inspection of the following is necessary to
ensure trouble-free long-term operation:
Check the switching function
Check the secure fastening of the devices and the
connections
Check for soiling (e.g. the ventilation slots on the
housing)
Check the safe function of the safety guard par-
ticularly
after any setup work
after the replacement of a CES component
after an extended period without use
No servicing is required. Repairs to the device are only
allowed to be made by the manufacturer.
