Specific instructions for connection to an SCS or IPDS data source can
be found in the 3972 SCS Guide and 3974 IPDS Guides.
The printer is shipped with auto switching of interfaces enabled. Serial
and parallel interfaces are standard, see Chapter 2 of the 3860/80 User's
Manual.
CENTRONICS/IBM parallel and RS-232 serial printer cables are
available from any computer store. The cables must be rated FCC Class
B in order for the system to meet legal radio frequency interference
limits. The cables should have a braided shield to provide best immunity
from electrostatic discharge.
Serial Interface Connector
Install the cable and tighten cable connector screws or, when using the
parallel interface, secure the cable to the printer with the bail wires on the
printer connector.
To be safe, do it in that order.
