16. CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Your electric wheelchair requires a minimum amount of care and maintenance. The following
parts require checking and/or care and maintenance

16.1 Tyre pressure

• If the wheelchair has tyres, maintain the air pressure as indicated on the tyres.
• It is important to maintain the specified tyre pressure at all times. Do not over-inflate the
tyres. Low pressure can result in loss of control and excessively high pressure can cause
the tyres to burst. Failure to maintain the specified tyre pressure at all times can damage
the tyre and/or wheel. Inspect the tyres regularly for wear.

16.2 Cleaning and disinfection

• Use a damp cloth and non-abrasive neutral detergent to clean the plastic and metal parts
of the electric wheelchair. Avoid using products that could scratch the surface of your
electric wheelchair.
• DO NOT immerse the device in water for any reason!
• If necessary, clean the product with an approved disinfectant. Make sure the disinfectant
is safe for the product before you use it.
• Read all the safety instructions for correct use of the disinfectant and/or detergent before
using it on your product. Failure to do so may result in irritation of the skin or premature
damage to the upholstery and/or finishes of the electric wheelchair.
• Never use acids, alkalis or solvents (acetone or diluent) to clean it.

16.3 Battery terminal connections

• Make sure the connectors are tightly connected and not corroded.
• The batteries must be in their compartments
• The battery terminals must be turned inwards towards the electric wheelchair

16.4 Cables

• Regularly check the electrical connections.
• Regularly check the electrical insulation, including the battery charger cable, for signs
of wear or damage.
• Have any damaged connector, connection or insulation replaced or repaired by an
authorised retailer before using the electric wheelchair.

16.5 Axle supports and motor/differential

These components are pre-lubricated and sealed and do not require further lubrication.
REPLACING A WHEEL
If the electric wheelchair has tyred wheels and one of the tyres is flat, replace the inner tube.
If the electric wheelchair has a solid rubber tyre, replace the entire wheel.
Contact an authorised retailer for details on spare wheels for your electric wheelchair.

MOTOR BRUSHES

The motor brushes are housed inside the differential/motor unit. They must be inspected
periodically. Have them replaced by an authorised retailer if they are worn.

16.6 Control panels, battery charger and rear electronics

• Protect these components from damp.
• If exposed to damp, leave them to dry completely before you use the electric wheelchair
again.
