are perfectly aligned by following the procedure just described.
The alignment must be checked again when the unit reaches its operating temperature. While the founda-
tions are new and the plant has not been tested under all operating conditions, the alignment must be
checked at regular intervals and, if necessary, corrected. Imprecise placement alignment of the unit or a
defective connection of the pipes, could cause vibrations and lead to an increase in noise and rapid wear of
the elastic anchors of the coupling, damage to the bearings, the mechanical seal and other internal parts.
In positioning the pump-motor unit remember to leave a large enough space behind the motor to allow the
necessary air circulation for cooling the motor.
Installation of electropumps MSV/MSH
Lift and transport the pump and the pump-motor unit by strapping them in a secure and safe way. Do
not use any eyebolts on the motor since they are not dimensioned to support the weight of the complete
unit – Fig. 1 -.
Where only one pump is purchased and coupled with a different motor from what is provided for in our
catalogue, the safety aspects will have to be guaranteed by whoever carries out the connection.
Where the pump-motor unit is supplied ready assembled and ready for installation, the machine must only
be fastened, using the anchor holes provided for (on the suction base for the vertical machines mod. MSV,
on the supporting brackets of the suction casing and the pump-motor connection bracket for horizontal
machines mod. MSH) to a concrete slab of adequate dimensions, taking into consideration the weight of
the unit and the operation strain.
Instead, if the pump-motor unit is still to be assembled, proceed by carrying out the following operations:
place the pump on the bedplate in a vertical position, for mod. MSV units, or horizontally for mod.
3
MSH units;
position the electric motor and bring it close to the pump;
3
carefully clean the coupling surfaces and remove the protection mesh netting from the connection/
3
drive joint;
assemble the two half-joints, on the pump side and on the motor side, onto their corresponding shaft
3
ends;
couple the two machines (pump and motor) and tighten the coupling screws of the two semi-joints,
3
making sure that:
• each screw has a lock washer (grower type),
• when tightening, the rotating hydraulic part (pump shaft and impellers) is raised;
complete the operation of fastening the unit to the bedplate by assembling the protection of the
3
movement transmission organ;
in order not to transmit strain to the unit, recover any misalignments between the anchorage points
3
of the unit and the supporting slab by using suitable shims.
In positioning the pump-motor unit, remember to leave enough space behind (for the horizontal machines
mod. MSH) or above (for the vertical machines mod. MSV) the machine to allow adequate circulation of
the air suitable for cooling the motor.
N.B. The pump-motor units of the MSV and MSH series are ready to be coupled with non-standard PENTAX
electric motors, using a connection/driving joint (for both power/size, and projection of the shaft).
The noise values found in the preceding paragraph refer to units with PENTAX motors.
Pipes
The pipes must be fastened and anchored to their supports and connected in a way so as to not transmit
forces, tensions and vibrations to the pump. Any compensators used must be arranged correctly (flexible
expansion joints) to absorb dilatation or vibrations. – Fig. 4-5-6 -
The internal diameter of the pipes depends, not only on their length but also on the delivery rate to be
elaborated: it must be chosen so that the speed of the liquid does not exceed 1.4-1.5 m/s in suction and
2.4-2.5 m/s in delivery; in any case the diameter of the pipes must not be less than that of the diameter
of the pump outlets. The pump should be installed as close as possible to the liquid being drawn off (pay
special attention to pressure drops in the pipes). Before installation, check that the pipes are clean inside.
The suction pipes must: - Fig. 5 -
3
• be as short as possible, without constrictions or brusque bends (use conical joints if there are
different size diameters);
• be leak-proof and resist the negative pressure that the pump produces during suction;
• have an ascending course towards the pump, to avoid air sacs that could prevent the pump from
being primed or cause it to lose its priming.
For the pump to operate in suction, insert foot valve with suction rose. for correct operation the end of the
suction pipe must be immersed in water at a depth of at least twice the diameter of the pipe. For working
below head, fit a check-valve which, if it is a gate-valve, must be installed with the flywheel axle horizontal
- Fig. 6 -.
It would be best if the delivery pipe were fitted with a non-return valve and a regulating valve. The
3
former, positioned up-line of the latter, protects the pump from the hammering effect and prevents
backflow through the impeller should the unit suddenly stop. The regulating valve, instead, is used
to regulate the flow rate, head and power absorbed. Install a pressure indicator (pressure gauge) on
the delivery pipe. - Fig. 4-5-6 -.
After installing and before starting the assembly (pumps models CA/4CA), check the foundation bolts are
firmly tightened, the pipe connections and recheck the joints are aligned (pump-motor) following the pro-
cedure given in the previous paragraph.
Electric wiring of pumps CA/4CA
The electric connections must be carried out by qualified personnel in respect of the legislative dispositions,
the local technical regulations in force and following the instructions supplied by the maker of the motor.
