8.1 Using MagicWatch
MagicWatch is activated automatically when you shift into reverse gear with
the ignition on or the engine running. There is no display when reversing.
After you have shifted out of the reverse gear, a long double beep sounds to
indicate that it is working. The system will then operate for a defined period
of time (5 to a max. of 15 s).
In addition, you can switch on MagicWatch manually with the switch on the
display (e. g. when driving forwards). The system is switched off by pressing
the button again. The switch-off phase now begins from 5 to 15 s.
If the system is automatically activated by the reverse gear, the system will
remain activated 5 - 15 s approximately according to the time selected.
Once an obstacle is in the detection range, the distance is indicated by the
various LED colours. A sequence of warning signals is sounded in addition.
As you approach the obstacle, the colours of the LEDs change as does the
speed of the sound sequence. MagicWatch differentiates between three dis-
tance categories (see Chapter "Performing a functional test" on page 43).
Each LED represents a sensor. If the right edge of the vehicle approaches
an obstacle, the LED on the right signals the obstacle. If the obstacle is
detected by the middle sensors, the middle LEDs light up etc.
The LED colours represent the distance ranges shown below:

Green approx. 1.2 – 0.8 m
Orange approx. 0.8 – 0.4 m
Red approx. 0.4 – 0 m
