1 Operating Elements
and Connections
The figures on page 3 show the model PMX-
1282USB. The model PMX-842USB has fewer
mono input channels and does not have any
MAIN INSERT jacks (55), otherwise it is com-
pletely identical.

1.1 Front panel

The sections
and
show the first mono input
channel (the remaining mono channels are iden-
tical) and the first stereo input channel (the sec-
ond stereo channel is identical).
1 Input MIC (XLR jack, bal.) for the connection
of a microphone
Note: For all microphone inputs it is possible to
switch on a phantom power with the switch PHAN-
TOM POWER
also see item 47.
2 Input LINE IN for connection of a unit with line
signal level (e. g. musical instrument)
mono channel:
1 × 6.3 mm jack, bal.
stereo channel:
1 × 6.3 mm jack Left L, bal.
1 × 6.3 mm jack Right R, bal.
Note: When connecting a mono unit to a stereo
channel, only use the jack L.
3 Button LOW CUT to switch on the low cut fil-
ter (high pass) to suppress unwanted signal
parts below 75 Hz, e. g. subsonic sound
4 Control TRIM to adjust the input amplification
5 Selector button LEVEL to match the level for
units with a line output level which is too low:
with the button engaged, the input level is
boosted by 12 dB
6 Equalizer controls for the high frequencies
(HIGH), mid-frequencies (MID) and bass fre-
quencies (LOW)
7 Control AUX for adding the channel signal to
the Aux send way 1; the signal pick-up can be
switched over between post-fader and pre-
fader with the button PRE (8)
8 Selector button "pre-fader / post-fader" for the
Aux send way 1
disengaged: signal picked up post-fader
the channel signal is sent to the Aux send
way after the fader (15)
engaged: signal picked up pre-fader
the channel signal is sent to the Aux send
way ahead of the fader
9 Control FX to add the channel signal to the
Aux send way 2 (post-fader); the Aux send
way 2 serves also as the effect way for the
internal effect processor
10 Mono channel:
Panorama control PAN to position the mono
signal in the stereo sound
stereo channel:
balance control BAL to adjust the balance
Left / Right for the stereo signal
11 Routing button MUTE ALT 3 - 4 to switch the
channel signal either to the main master
channels MAIN MIX or to the alternative mas-
ter channels ALT 3 - 4
disengaged:
the channel signal is assigned to MAIN
MIX and muted for ALT 3 - 4
engaged, LED MUTE (12) lights up:
the channel signal is assigned to ALT 3 - 4
and muted for MAIN MIX
Please also pay attention to the notes about
the button MUTE ALT 3 - 4 in chapter 5.5.

13 LED CLIP
with the button SOLO (14) disengaged:
overload indication; if it lights up perma-
nently, reduce the input amplification [turn
back control TRIM (4) or disengage button
LEVEL (5)] and / or turn back the equalizer
controls (6)
with the button SOLO (14) engaged:
lights up to indicate that the monitoring
function is switched on for the channel
14 Button SOLO to monitor the channel via the
headphone output (23) and the CONTROL
ROOM output (54)
1. To switch on the monitoring function for the
channel, press the button SOLO, the LED
CLIP (13) lights up.
2. Select the monitoring mode with the button
MODE (44):
"SOLO" = monitoring of the channel signal
after the fader (15) and the panorama or
balance control (10)
Disengage the button MODE, the red
LED MAIN SOLO lights up. The level
indication (43) shows the SOLO channel
signal (stereo).
"PFL" ("pre fader listening") = monitoring of
the channel signal ahead of the fader
and the panorama or balance control
Press the button MODE, the green LED
PFL lights up. The level indication shows
the PFL channel signal (mono).
15 Level control (fader) to add the channel signal
to the main master channels MAIN MIX or to
the alternative master channels ALT 3 - 4,
depending on the button MUTE ALT 3 - 4 (11)
16 Input STEREO AUX RETURN 1 (6.3 mm
jacks LEFT/RIGHT, bal.) can be used as an
input for an effect unit or for an additional line
audio source.
Note: When connecting a mono unit, only use the
jack LEFT.
17 Mono output AUX SEND 1 (6.3 mm jack,
unbal.) of the Aux send way 1,
here e. g. the input of an effect unit or an
active monitor system may be connected
18 Input CD / TAPE INPUT (phono jacks Left L /
Right R) for connection to the output of a
recorder or another reproducing unit, e. g. a
CD player
19 Output CD / TAPE OUTPUT (phono jacks
Left L / Right R) for connection to the input of
a recorder
Please also pay attention to the note about
button 2-TR / USB TO MAIN
20 Input STEREO AUX RETURN 2 (6.3 mm
jacks LEFT/ RIGHT, bal.) can be used as an
input for an effect unit or for an additional line
audio source
When connecting both jacks, the left and right
outputs of the internal effect processor are
muted.
Note: The imprint MONO above the left jack is of
no importance for this input. It refers to the input
STEREO AUX RETURN 1 (16).
21 Mono output AUX SEND 2 (6.3 mm jack,
unbal.) of Aux send way 2,
here e. g. the input of an effect unit may be
connected
22 Connection FX FOOTSW (6.3 mm jack) for a
momentary action foot pedal for switching
on / off the internal effect processor
23 Output PHONES (6.3 mm jack) for connec-
tion of stereo headphones (minimum imped-
ance 8 Ω)
24 BNC connection LAMP for a console light
(12 V /400 mA max.)
25 Level control for the total signal of the Aux
send way 1 which is available at the output
AUX SEND 1 (17)
26 Button SOLO - each for Aux send way 1 and
Aux send way 2 - to monitor the Aux send
way via the headphone output (23) and the
CONTROL ROOM output (54);
each Aux send way is monitored after the
corresponding AUX SEND control (25, 27)
Note: With the button MODE (44) disengaged, the
level indication (43) shows the monitoring signal on
the left and right; with the button engaged on the left
only.
