Installing the Mulching Plate

WARNING
!
DO NOT attempt any maintenance, adjustments or service
with engine and blade running. STOP engine and blade.
Remove starter insert. Disconnect spark plug wire and
secure away from spark plug. Engine and components are
HOT. Avoid serious burns, allow sufficient time for all com-
ponents to cool.
1. Raise the discharge deflector (A, Figure 12).
2. Align the mulching plate (B) with the side dis-
charge opening. Make sure that the two alignment
bumps (C) are inside the opening.
3. Mount the tab (D) on the top of the mulching plate
to the inside of the mower housing.
4. Mount the tab (E) on the bottom of the mulching
plate to the inside of the mower housing.
5. Lower the discharge deflector.
NOTE: On some models, the mulching plate is
installed at the factory. To convert from a mulcher to a
side discharge, simply remove the mulching plate.

Mulching Operation

For best mulching results, cut up to a maximum of 1/3
of grass length and recycle ONLY when grass is dry.
1. Make sure the discharge deflector and grass bag
are removed, and the mulching plug is installed.
2. Set the cutting height adjust lever in the highest
cutting position (Notch 7).
3. Proceed mowing slowly. Gradually lower the cut-

grass in one pass, or cutting wet heavy grass may
cause clumping or plugging of the mower deck.
