Crimping
4
DANGER
Electric shock hazard! Working in adverse outdoor conditions can cause electric shocks and/or short
circuits.
▶ Never work on electrically live lines while a thunderstorm is in progress.
▶ Call a halt to work immediately whenever weather conditions impair the insulation characteristics, vision
or movement of the workers.
WARNING
Danger! Risk of fire due to faulty crimping.
▶ Use crimping terminals of the correct type and size for the cable and with the corresponding crimping
dies. Failure to observe this point can result in faulty crimping.
▶ Listen for the signal tone and check that the piston has retracted. If no signal tone is heard or if the piston
does not retract then the crimping is faulty.
WARNING
Risk of injury due to oil escaping under high pressure! Oil escaping under high pressure can injure the
skin and the eyes.
▶ Do not use the crimping tool if damage is visible.
▶ Do not use the crimping tool if oil escapes.
▶ Make sure that the piston retracts after every crimping operation.
▶ If the piston does not retract after the crimping operation, press the reset button for manual retraction.
WARNING
Risk of injury due to flying fragments! Flying fragments present a risk of injury to the eyes and body.
▶ Wear eye protection and protective gloves.
▶ Use suitable connecting material in combination with the correct crimping / pressing dies.
▶ Before and during the crimping operation, make sure that the crimping jaws are correctly positioned.
CAUTION
Short-circuit due to formation of flash produced by crimping operations! Faulty crimping can lead to
the formation of flash, which can cause short-circuiting/arcing.
▶ Use the correct crimping / pressing die.
▶ Use suitable connecting material.
▶ Remove the flashes that form in the course of crimping work.
1. Insert the connector in the open crimping die.
In cold weather the hydraulic oil can thicken and slow the crimping / pressing operation. Perform
5 to 10 empty crimping / pressing operations to heat up the crimping / pressing tool.
2. Press the control switch.
3. Keep the control switch pressed until the piston has retracted.
4. Repeat the crimping operation if necessary, beginning at A and moving in the direction of arrow B,
carrying out the number of crimping operations given in the tables.
