3 .4 Microwave-Safe Cookware

WARNING: FIRE HAZARD .
Do not use metal cookware or metallic materials
such as aluminum foil or wire twist ties in the
microwave. Failure to obey this warning could
result in death or serious injury.
The ideal container for microwave cooking allows
the microwaves to heat the food without heating the
container. Labels will often indicate if a material is
suitable for use in the microwave.
Do not use recycled paper products for cooking in
a microwave oven, as they may contain small metal
fragments.
Round/oval containers are better than square/oblong
containers, because food may overheat in the corners.
In general, cookware made from heat-resistant ceramic,
glass, or plastic can be used if the following limits are
taken into consideration:
• Heat-Resistant Ceramics - Do not use if decorated
with a metal rim or glaze
• Heat-Resistant Plastics - Should not be used for long
duration heating
• Plastic Wrap - Use only at low power

WARNING: ELECTRICAL SHOCK, FIRE, AND/
OR EXPLOSION HAZARD . Failure to obey the
following warnings could result in death or
serious injury .
• The microwave must be plugged into a properly
installed and grounded power outlet. Consult
a qualified electrician or service person if the
grounding instructions are not completely
understood or if doubt exists as to whether the power
outlet is properly grounded.
• Do not install the microwave in a location where
the ventilation openings in the microwave or in the
enclosure might become obstructed.
• Do not install the microwave in a location near heat,
moisture, high humidity, or flammable materials.
• Do not install the microwave where it may come in
contact with corrosive chemicals or vapors.
NOTICE: Verify that the voltage supplied by the power
outlet is the same as the microwave's rated voltage. See
"Specifications" on page 6.
This section describes how to select an appropriate
installation location and prepare the cabinet for the
microwave.
5 .1 Selecting the Installation
Location
Select a location for the microwave that is away from
heat and moisture sources, and that provides good
airflow.
If a 120 VAC power outlet does not already exist at the
desired location, consult a qualified electrician or service
person to install one.
I
Locating the power outlet in an adjacent cabinet
to the installation site allows easy access to the
microwave plug in the event the microwave needs
to be unplugged quickly.
