5.
When the clutch cable is in place, secure the cable onto the handle
with the provided cable ties in the locations shown in Figure 8.
ADjUSTMENTS
Clutch Cable
Check the adjustment of the clutch cable as follows:
1.
Position the tiller so the front counterweight is against a solid
object, such as a wall.
2.
With the gear selection lever in NEUTRAL, start the engine. Refer
to Starting the Engine in the Operation section.
3.
Standing on the right side of the tiller, examine the belt (inside the
belt cover). It should not be turning.
4.
If the belt turns without the clutch control engaged, unthread
the upper nut and adjust it by unthreading lower nut a few turns
clockwise (when standing in the operator's position) and then
retighten the upper nut against the cable bracket. See Figure 9.

5.
Now move the shift lever to the FORWARD position.
6.
Carefully engage the clutch by squeezing clutch lever against the
handle. The wheels should spin.
7.
If the wheels do not spin with the tiller in forward, loosen the
upper nut and adjust by tightening the cable a few turns counter-
clockwise (when standing in the operator's position) and then
retighten the upper nut against cable bracket. See Figure 9.
8.
Recheck both adjustments, and readjust as necessary.
NOTE: A secondary cable adjustment is available if you reach the
point that additional adjustment is needed. Move the nuts at the other
end of the cable towards the end of the casing. Then readjust the nuts
at the cable bracket.
Idler Pulley Rod
Check the adjustment of the idler pulley rod as follows:
1.
Disconnect and ground the spark plug wire against the engine.
2.
With the engine off and the clutch lever disengaged, shift the shift
lever to each forward mode.
3.
Confirm that the shift lever indicator bracket does not touch the
idler pulley rod with the clutch lever disengaged.
4.
To readjust the idler pulley rod, remove the belt cover as de-
scribed under Belt Replacement in the Service and Maintenance
section.
5.
Remove the cotter pin and spring washer from the idler pulley rod.
See Figure 10.
