To the person(s) in charge of the Fuel tank drainer
The Fuel tank drainer L1050 handles petrol, diesel and L1050-E also handles ethanol (E85).
Fuel shall be handled with great care to avoid accidents, unpleasant smells and vapors.
Therefore read the instructions carefully before usage.
General description
The drainer is made out of stainless steel with a working volume of 115 liters and total weight of 36 kg. It's run by
compressed air and an ejector, equipped with a overflow protection which automatically turns the suction off when it's full
and also a security valve which reduce the tank pressure to 0,7±0,1 Bar when refilling. In addition to this it has a 2,3 meter
long fuel hose with a drip-free quick coupling and an evacuation hose that on L1050-E is equipped with a flame arrester for
extra security.
When refilling fuel, five liters remain in the bottom of the drainer to isolate water and contaminants. Draining of these is
done by laying the drainer with its handle downwards, undo the drain plug and then raise the drainer so the liquid pours
out. If you wish, you may now change to a different kind of fuel.
The drainer comes with fuel refill pipe (no. L1054-1), coned suction adaptor (no. L1054-2) and fuel suction hose 12mm,
1,9m (no. L1063) included.
As accessories there's a Fuel filter drainer (no. L1045) with which you can change the filter without smell or spill, special
adaptors for connecting to fuel lines, and also fuel suction hoses in different sizes for suction from the fuel tank filler neck.
See page 17 for a list of accessories.
If larger volumes are needed, more fuel containers may be obtained (no. L1052), the valve unit is easily transferred to these
by loosening the screw that holds it. This now makes a complete drainer.
Handling instructions
The drainer shall be stored in an upright position on an even surface. It has a 3 meter long grounding cable with a clamp
that must be attached to the vehicle when using the drainer. Fasten it on a surface with as clean metal and good ground as
possible, for example door locks or newer exhausts.
Emptying of the fuel tank (also see the valves positions on page 20)
Put the evacuation hose in an approved exhaust vent and attach the grounding cable to the vehicle. Depending on the car
model a suitable adaptor for fuel lines and suction hose for the filler neck is chosen.
Attach the chosen adaptor or suction hose to the vehicle and connect it with the quick coupling to the fuel hose on the
drainer. Now connect the compressed air to the drainer, set the air valve (blue) in the open position, adjust the air pressure
to 4 bar with the pressure regulator and set the 3-way valve (black) to suction position.
Now fuel is sucked out of the vehicle. Don't fill over the level mark. When the draining is finished detach the compressed
air, set the 3-way valve (black) in the closed position and let the drainer pressure equalize before closing the air valve
(blue). Now the drainer is sealed and no smell is released.
Refilling of fuel (also see the valves positions on page 20)
Attach the grounding cable, connect the fuel refill pipe with the quick coupling to the fuel hose on the drainer and place it
in the vehicles tank filler neck. Set the 3-way valve (black) in the refilling position, the air valve (blue) in the closed position,
connect the compressed air and adjust the air pressure to 0,5 bar.
Now the fuel is refilling to the vehicle. When it's finished set the 3-way valve (black) to the closed position, detach the
compressed air, open the air valve (blue) for pressure equalization of the drainer and then close the air valve (blue).
Detach the fuel refill pipe and hang the hoses with soft bends around the handle to avoid damaging them.
Check of the security valve
The test shall be performed once a year. Set the air valve (blue) and the 3-way valve (black) in the closed position, connect
the compressed air and adjust the air pressure to 1 bar. The safety valve should release at 0,7±0,1 bars of overpressure.
This can be read off the pressure gauge for tank pressure. If there's a deviation the security valve must be replaced.
