12. Disposal

Battery and accumulator disposal
Batteries and accumulators containing harmful substances are marked with the
symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin and must not be disposed of with household
waste.
As a consumer you are legally obliged to return used batteries and accumulators. You can hand in
your old batteries and rechargeable batteries as hazardous waste at the public collection points in
your community or wherever batteries of the respective type are sold. You will find these marks on
batteries containing harmful substances: Pb = battery contains lead, Cd = battery contains cadmi-
um, Hg = battery contains mercury.
Disposal of the fever thermometer
According to the current state of knowledge, the thermometer does not contain any particular en-
vironmentally hazardous substances. The thermometer is not to be treated as normal waste but
must be handed in at a collection point for the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment.
For more information, contact your local authority or municipal waste management company.
