4.4 Hydraulic Component Installation
IMPORTANT: For threaded NPTF connections, use
1-1/2 wraps of PTFE (Teflon) tape on the male
threads. Leave the first complete thread free of
tape. Trim loose ends to ensure that pieces of tape
do not enter the hydraulic system, possibly causing
damage. See Illustration 1.

For Puller Sets with a P392 Hand Pump:

1. Remove plug from pump hydraulic port.
2. Thread gauge adaptor into pump hydraulic port.
3. Connect one end of hose to quick coupler on
pump gauge adaptor.
4. Connect other end of hose to quick coupler on
cylinder.

For Puller Sets with a P142 Hand Pump:
See Illustration 2.
1. Remove plug from pump hydraulic port.
2. Thread reducer-connector into pump hydraulic
port.
3. Thread gauge adaptor into reducer-connector.
4. Connect one end of hose to quick coupler on
pump gauge adaptor.
5. Connect other end of hose to quick coupler on
cylinder.
IMPORTANT: Fully hand-tighten all couplers. Loose
coupler connections will block the flow of oil between
the pump and the cylinder.

4.5 Air Removal
Removing air from the hydraulic system will help the
cylinder to advance and retract smoothly.
Position the cylinder so that the plunger is pointed
down and the cylinder is positioned lower than the
pump. Fully extend and retract the cylinder several
times, until operation is smooth.
