3. Operation
Power-up
•
Turn the unit on using the main switch
•
The right led between the two knobs lights up
Stirring (only for AREX / ARE 5)
•
Rotate the right knob to set the stirring speed, the led over the speed knob lights up
•
The real speed increases until setpoint achievement
•
A microprocessor ensures constant speed even if the viscosity changes (SpeedServo)
•
Turn the knob to the 0 positions to stop stirring
Heating
•
Rotate the left knob to set the heating plate temperature
•
If the set temperature is higher than the actual one, the led over the temperature knob lights up
•
When the heating plate temperature exceeds 50 °C, the left led between the two knobs lights up until the
temperature drops below 50 °C
Note: This warning is active even if the main switch is off but not if the instrument is not powered.
•
Turn the knob to the 0 positions to stop heating
Operation with thermoregulator VTF (only for AREX 5)
•
Turn off the instrument using the main switch
•
Screw the threaded support rod into its seat on the back of the instrument and fasten the VTF thermoregulator onto
the support rod. Place the temperature probe in the flask making sure that it is completely immersed into the
sample.
•
Plug the VTF into the dedicated socket on the back of the instrument
•
Turn the unit on using the main switch. When the VTF is correctly connected, the display of the VTF lights up
showing the temperature of the sample
•
Select the temperature set point on the VTF
•
Turn the temperature knob to the max value to start heating
Note: The AREX 5 always has primary control of the heating plate temperature. The temperature control function
of the heating plate can also be used as a safety thermostat. In this case, the maximum temperature of the heating
plate will not exceed the temperature setting on the magnetic stirrer, meaning that a longer heating time is required
in order to reach the VTF thermoregulator temperature set, thus reducing temperature oscillation at the setpoint
value.
4. Error and warning messages
When the control panel shows one of the following error messages, the instrument functions automatically stop.
Display indicator
Flashing Heating led and Hot plate led ON
Flashing Heating led and Hot plate led OFF
Flashing Stirring led (only for AREX / ARE 5)
To remove the error message, restart the instrument from the main switch. For the overtemperature of the safety probe is
necessary to disconnect the instrument from the power supply.

Malfunction:
Heating plate overtemperature (T > 330°C)
Heating plate safety probe overtemperature (T >370°C)
The stirring system doesn't run correctly
