ladder. ELECTRICAL HAZARDS. Unavoidable live
working (e. g. fault finding). Positioning ladders too
close to live electrical equipment (such as overhead
power lines). Ladders damaging electrical equipment
(such as covers or protective insulation). Incorrect
selection of type of ladder for electrical work.
PICTOGRAMS.
The square pictograms illustrate a positive action to
be followed and have a green border, and the round
pictograms illustrate a prohibited action and have a red
border. Read the instructions (1). Secure top/bottom of
ladder (2). Ladder extension above the landing point
(3). Maximum number of user on ladder (4). Face
ladder when ascending or descending (5). Maximum
load (6). Inspect ladder feet (7). Ladder extension
above the landing point (8). Visual check before use
(9). Stabiliser mounting (10). Leaning ladders safety
rung (11). Maximum load (12). Correct erection angle
(13). Only one person per ascendable leg of the
ladder/stepladder (14). Ensure ground is free from
contaminants (15). Do not use the ladder as a bridge
(16). Face ladder when ascending or descending
(17). Erect on a level base (18). Do not step off the
side of a ladder (19). Ensure top of ladder is correctly
positioned (20). Do not over-reach (21). Beware of
electrical hazards when transporting ladder (22).
Wear suitable footwear when climbing the ladder (23).
Ensure ground is free from contaminants (24). Erect on
a firm base (25). Erect on a level base (26). Do not use
the ladder as a bridge (27). When positioning ladder
take into account risk of collision (28). Do not climb if
your hands are occupied (29). Do not over-reach (30).
Beware of electrical hazards when transporting ladder
(31). Use the correct postion; base must be down (32).
FITTING STABILISER BAR.
Warning; the stabiliser bar must be fitted before
use. Flip the ladder vertically so that the feet are
accessible (33). You will notice plastic pins in the slot
on each foot. In order to fit the stabiliser bar, these
pins will need to be snapped. This can be done
easily using a flathead screwdriver. Once the pins
have been snapped and removed, the stabiliser bar
will fit into the slots. You will need to line up the holes
on the stabiliser bar with the holes on the legs of
the ladder. Note; you may need a rubber mallet to
carefully tap the stabiliser bar into the slots securely.
With the stabiliser bar slotted onto the feet of the
ladder, secure into place using the 2 bolts provided
(34). Tighten the bolts with a wrench to secure.
OPERATION.
The ladder can be used at various heights for
different tasks; closed, intermediate length and full
length (35). Note; the ladder should be inclined
using the 1-4 rule; for every 4 parts up, the Ladder
should be placed 1 part out (e.g. 2 m up, 50 cm out).
LOCKING MECHANISM.
The locking mechanisms lock each rung with 2 steel
locking pins that automatically spring into place when
the ladder is extended. Caution; ensure all locking
mechanisms are engaged before and after use. To
collapse the ladder down to its closed position, push
the locking mechanisms together simultaneously
and release (36, 37).
OPEN LADDER TO INTERMEDIATE LENGTH.
Place the ladder on a firm, level surface. Place your
foot on the bottom rung to stabilise the ladder (38).
Starting with the second rung from the bottom, use
both hands to grasp the hand grips on either side of
the rung and pull upwards to extend the step (39).
When each step is fully extended, you should hear
a "click", confirming that the locking mechanisms
are engaged for that level (40).
OPEN LADDER TO FULL LENGTH.
Place the ladder on a firm, level surface. Place your
foot on the bottom rung to stabilise the ladder (38).
Starting with the top bar, use both hands to grasp
the hand grips on either side of the rung and pull
upwards to extend the step (41). When each step is
fully extended, you should hear a "click", confirming
that the locking mechanisms are engaged for that
level (40). Important; if you are opening the ladder
to its full length, you should always extend from top
to bottom.
CLOSING LADDER.
Hold the ladder in an upright position. Place one
foot on the bottom rung to stabilise the ladder (38).
Starting at the lowest extended rung, use both
hands to grasp the hand grips on either side of the
rung, then, with your thumbs, disengage the locking
mechanisms (37, 42, 43, 44).
