4. Operating sequence:

4.1
Inserting the steep taper tool:
Loading the steep taper tool can only be
done when the operating spindle is comple-
tely stationary. During insertion it is absolu-
tely essential to remember to push the tool
right through until the clamping procedure is
completed.
4.2
Clamping the steep taper tool:
The steep taper tool should only be clam-
ped when the spindle is completely statio-
nary.
4.2.1 Motion sequence of the stationary
unclamp unit:
Hydraulic connection A of the stationary
unclamp unit must have a pressure of
5--100 bar applied. In the process the clam-
ping plunger moves to the mounting cover
and releases the clamp for movement to the
spindle. As a result of this motion the pres-
sure spring displaces the housing in the di-
rection of the spindle and the tilting boxes
rise up from the coupling ring.
There is now no longer a
connection between stationary
and rotating parts.
4.2.2 Motion sequence of the built-in clamp:
In parallel with the motion sequence of the
stationary unclamp unit, the built-in clamp
proceeds through the following stages:
The pressure sleeve presses the clamping
wedge outwards between the mounting collar
and the collet piston with the elastic force of
the disc springs. The combination of the cor-
responding angles results in increased force.
Via the drawbar screwed into the collet piston
and the screwed-on drawbar extension, the
clamping set moves with the clamping piece
and the segmented collet clamp. Because of
this the steep taper tool retracts into the work
spindle and the self-locking system is activa-
ted. Even in case of a power failure the steep
taper tool is securely locked into the clam-
ping position.
4.3
Releasing the steep taper tool:
Releasing the tool likewise can only be done
when the spindle is completely
stationary.
4.3.1 Motion sequence of the stationary
unclamp unit:
Hydraulic connection B of the stationary unc-
lamp unit must have a pressure of 80-150
bar applied to it. In the process the clamping

plunger of the stationary unclamp unit
moves to the in-built clamp ram and trig-
gers off the motion sequence of the built-
in clamp in the spindle. Prior to the mo-
tion cycle the housing moves against the
force of the pressure springs until the til-
ting boxes are positioned on the coupling
ring. Due to this counter-force of the
spindle the spindle bearing arrangement
does not have to absorb any unclamping
forces of the clamping unit.
4.3.2 Motion sequence of the built-in
clamp:
In parallel the built-in clamp performs the
following motion sequence in the spindle:
Through the operation of the clamping
plunger of the built-in clamp via the clam-
ping plunger of the stationary un-clamp
unit, the clamping wedges are unlocked
by the thrust pin and forced to withdraw.
At the same time the disc spring set is
pushed together by the pressure sleeve
and the segmented collet clamp is relea-
sed by means of the drawbar, the draw-
bar extension and the clamping piece.
The steep taper tool is ejected a set di-
stance from the work spindle by the front
face of the clamping piece.
4.4
Removal of the steep taper tool:
The steep taper tool can be removed
from the work spindle and be exchanged
for another. A complete cycle is thus
completed.

5. Assembly

5.1 Assembly of the built-in clamp
5.1.1 Preparation
During the assembly of the RÖHM built-in
clamp the following preliminary tasks must be
carried out and the following points must be
checked beforehand:
1. All components must be in undamaged
condition
2. Clean the machine spindle
3. The built-in clamp must be free of dirt; the
wedge gearing and the disc springs must be
lubricated with F80 grease ID No. 28975
4. Test the connection between the drawbar and
the drawbar extension by tightening the lock nut
and the grubscrew
5. Test pre-setting dimension in max. clamping
position (see assembly drawing) of the disc
spring set.
