Let's Talk About Your New Radio
You may use your Motorola™ Talkabout TA288 walkie-talkies in any
country in which PMR446 frequencies are authorized. The Pan-
European short range, two-way radio service was established
specifically for both business and non-business users. Contact your
radio licensing authority for more information.
Batteries
Talkabout TA288 walkie-talkies operate with either a Nickel-Metal
Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable battery pack, which is supplied as
standard, or 3 AA batteries which can be fitted by using the optional
AA battery pack.
To Install NiMH Battery:
1. Firmly pull battery cover (walkie-talkie back) down to remove.

2. Insert NiMH battery pack with contact side down.
3. Replace the battery cover and push up until secure.
To Charge NiMH Battery:
To get maximum use from the battery, charge it for at least five hours
before you use it for the first time. After initial charging, your battery
will fully charge in about three hours.
1. Ensure the walkie-talkie is off.
2. Plug the charger into an AC wall socket.
3. Lift the charging jack cover on the walkie-talkie and plug charger
connector into the charging jack.
4. The light on the charger will be red while the battery is charging
and will flash green when the battery is almost charged.
5. The green light will be on constantly when the battery is fully
charged.
To Install AA Batteries:
1. Firmly pull battery cover (walkie-talkie back) down to remove.

2. Insert 3 AA batteries into the AA battery tray
3. Align tabs at top of battery tray with slots on walkie-talkie before

pressing into place.
4. Slide battery cover over battery tray and push up until secure.

To turn The Walkie-talkie On and Off:
1. Press and hold down the Power button until the walkie-talkie

beeps (when the Alert tones are enabled) and the display appears.
2. The walkie-talkie LED will flash to indicate the walkie-talkie is on.

3. To turn the walkie-talkie off, hold down the Power button, the
walkie-talkie will beep to confirm (when the Alert tones are
enabled) and the display will disappear.
Battery Meter:

The Battery Meter icon, located on the LCD, is divided into three bars.
As power is used, the bars will disappear.
Low Battery Alert:
When batteries are approaching the end of their life, the battery meter
will show one bar and the walkie-talkie will emit periodic tone
warnings. When the batteries are completely exhausted the battery
meter will flash and a continuous tone will be heard for 10 seconds.
The walkie-talkie will then switch off.
