Microphone Gain Edit:
Microphone Gain Edit allows you to choose a high or low setting for
the microphone gain. If you speak loudly, the high setting should be
selected, and if you speak softly, the low setting should be selected.
1. Press the Menu button five times until the large channel number
is replaced by a horizontal bar.
2. The flashing mic/iVOX icon will appear and the display will show a
high bar for high setting or a low bar for low setting.
3. Use the Scroll button to switch between the levels.
4. The walkie-talkie will return to the normal operating mode after a
few seconds or when you press the Mon button.
Scan:
Scan allows you to monitor channels and codes of other transmitting
walkie-talkies. When the walkie-talkie detects channel activity, it stops
scanning and locks in on the active channel and code. It allows you to
listen and talk back to the person(s) transmitting without having to
switch channels.
Scan will only monitor the Interference Eliminator Codes currently
associated with a Channel.

1. To begin scanning, press the Scan button. The flashing Scan icon
will appear on the display.
2. When the walkie-talkie detects channel activity, the flashing Scan
icon will remain in the display and the display will indicate the
channel and code on which the activity is taking place.
3. To remain on this channel press the Mon button which will also
stop the walkie-talkie from scanning.
4. If no buttons are pressed the walkie-talkie will stay on the detected
channel for 5 seconds before continuing to scan the other channels.
5. To exit Scan, press the Scan button again, the display will show
the original Channel and Code number and the Scan icon will
disappear.
6. To begin scanning again, press the Scan button once more.

Selecting The Scan List:
The Talkabout TA288 walkie-talkie allows you to select which channels
are to be scanned. The walkie-talkie can be programmed to scan
specific channels by turning them on or off in the Scan List menu.
1. Press the Menu button three times to enter the Scan List menu.
The flashing Scan icon will appear and the current code number
will be replaced by the on/oF caption.
2. Press the Scroll button to change channels and determine if a
specific channel is included in the scan list. The on/oF caption
indicates whether or not the channel is included in the scan list.
3. Press the Scan button to add or delete a channel from the scan
list. Channels which are turned off will not be scanned.
4. The walkie-talkie will return to the normal operating mode after a
few seconds or when you press the Mon button.
Call Tones:
Talkabout TA288 walkie-talkies have five unique call tones to identify
each user and alert the others that you intend to transmit.
Press the Call button and all users on your channel and code will be
alerted with your Call Tone.
To Change and hear a Call Tone:
1. Press the Menu button four times to enter the Call Tone menu.
The Call icon will appear and the display will show the call tone
number.
2. Use the Scroll button to change the Call Tone.
3. The walkie-talkie will return to the normal operating mode after a
few seconds or when you press the Mon button.
