3.2 Selection of the viscometer

The flow time of the liquid to be measured depends on the size of the capillaries. The capillary size of
the viscometer should be selected in such a manner that flow times greater than 100 s result

calibration of the calibrated viscometer models yields correct measured values.

Table 1 List of viscometers for the selection of viscometers that are suitable to measure the flow
time for the application and to determine the viscosity by means of the ViscoClock plus.
Based on their construction, viscometers type 502 41, type 502 43 and type 502 50 are not suitable!
To measure the absolute kinematic viscosity, you must use viscometers that have been calibrated for
automatic measurements!
Prior to the first use, we recommend a cleaning procedure as per DIN 51 562, part 1.
After this, the viscometer must be dried and free of dust!

To measure the absolute (kinematic) viscosity with Ubbelohde viscometers, many standards assume
minimum run times of 200 seconds. Shorter run times are permitted if you use Micro Ubbelohde
viscometers or for measuring relative viscosities.
