up, the saw retracts to the starting position and the plunging
device is locked again.
To switch off the machine, release the On/Off switch 1.
Note: For safety reasons, the On/Off switch 1 cannot be
locked; it must remain pressed during the entire operation.
Reduced starting current
The electronic reduced starting current limits the power con-
sumption when switching the tool on and enables operation
from a 13 ampere fuse.
Constant Electronic Control
Constant electronic control holds the speed constant at no-
load and under load, and ensures uniform working perform-
ance.
Speed preselection
The required speed can be preselected with the thumbwheel
24 (also while running).
The required speed depends on the saw blade being used and
on the material being worked (see overview of saw blades at
the end of these operating instructions).
Working Advice
Protect saw blades against impact and shock.
Guide the machine evenly and with light feed in the cutting di-
rection. Excessive feed significantly reduces the service life of
the saw blade and can cause damage to the power tool.
Sawing performance and cutting quality depend essentially
on the condition and the tooth form of the saw blade. There-
fore, use only sharp saw blades that are suited for the material
to be worked.
Sawing Wood
The correct selection of the saw blade depends on the type
and quality of the wood and whether lengthway or crossway
cuts are required.
When cutting spruce lengthways, long spiral chips are
formed.
Beech and oak dusts are especially detrimental to health.
Therefore, work only with dust extraction.
Sawing Plastic
Note: When sawing plastic, especially PVC, long spiral-
shaped shavings develop, which can be electrostatically
charged. These can clog the sawdust ejector 18. It is recom-
mended to work with dust extraction.
Guide the switched on power tool against the workpiece and
carefully start the cut. Continue the cut with low feed and
without interruption, so that the saw teeth do not gum up too
quickly.
Sawing Non-ferrous Metals
Note: Use only a sharp saw blade that is suitable for non-fer-
rous metals. This ensures a clean cut and prevents blade bind-
ing.
Guide the switched on power tool against the workpiece and
carefully start the cut. Continue the cut with low feed and
without interruption.

When sawing profiles, always begin the cut from the narrow
side; when sawing U-profiles, never start the cut from the
open side. Support long profiles in order to avoid blade bind-
ing and kickback of the power tool.
Sawing Light Building Materials (Materials with Mineral
Content)
When sawing light building materials, observe the stat-
utory provisions and the recommendations of the ma-
terial suppliers.
Light building materials may only be sawn dry and when ap-
plying dust extraction. Always work with the guide rail 29 (ac-
cessory).
The vacuum cleaner must be approved for the extraction of
masonry dust. Bosch provides suitable vacuum cleaners.
Sawing with Guide Rail (see figure D)
The guide rail 29 is used to carry out straight cuts.
The rubber lip on the guide rail acts as a splinter guard; it pre-
vents fraying of the surface while sawing wooden materials.
For this, the teeth of the saw blade must face directly against
the rubber lip.
Prior to the very first cut, the rubber lip must be adapted with
the guide rail 29 to the circular saw being used. For this, place
the guide rail 29 over its complete length on a workpiece. Ad-
just a cutting depth of approx. 9 mm and the saw blade to a ze-
ro degree angle. Switch the circular saw on and guide it uni-
formly and with light feed in the cutting direction.
Two guide rails can be connected to one with use of the con-
nection piece 30. Clamping is carried out with the four screws
located in the connection piece.
Adapting the Base Plate to other Guide Rails
(see figure E)
The small groove integrated in base plate 7 can be used for
the guide rails shown on the accessories page. To adapt the
base plate to guide rails of other manufacturers with a wider
guide fin, remove plastic insert 34. Place the saw onto the
guide rail and adjust its accurate fit with the two knurled
screws 35, if required.
Sawing with Parallel Guide (see figure F–G)
The parallel guide 14 enables exact cuts along a workpiece
edge and cutting strips of the same dimension.
Slide the guide rods of parallel guide 14 through the guides in
base plate 7. Mount the wing bolts 10 on both sides as shown
in the figure, but do not tighten the wing bolts 10 yet.
Adjust the desired cutting width as the scale value at the re-
spective cutting mark 32 or 33, see section "Cutting Marks".
Tighten the wing bolts 10.
Sawing with Auxiliary Guide (see figure H)
For sawing large workpieces or straight edges, a board or
strip can clamped to the workpiece as an auxiliary guide; the
base plate of the circular saw can be guided alongside the aux-
iliary guide.
