3. Install a smoke detector on each floor of a multi-storied house or a mul-
ti-storied apartment.
4. Install at least two detectors in each household.
5. Install one smoke detector in each bedroom.
6. Install smoke detectors at both ends of a bedroom corridor if the corridor is
more than 12 meters (40 feet) long.
7. Install a smoke detector in every room where people sleep with the door
partially or completely closed, since the smoke could be blocked by the
closed door and an alarm in the corridor may not wake the sleeping person
if the door is closed.
8. Install basement detectors at the bottom of the basement stairwell. Install
detectors for the second floor at the top between the first and second floor
stairwell.
9. In hallways and corridors with a maximum width of 3 m, the distance
between two smoke detectors should not exceed 15 m.
