Precautions
Placement of the Unit
As the unit has a powerful amplifier, heat
is radiated from the back and top of the
unit and operation in a well ventilated area
is recommended, Avoid such conditions as
high temperatures,
direct sunlight, high
humidity and dust, Excessively long wiring,
particularly to speakers, may result in de-
terioration
of the sound, Therefore, keep
the connection cables as short as possible.

Controls and Connectors
FRONT PANEL
@POWER Switch
Press this switch to turn the power ON:
press it again to turn the power OFF.
Whenever
the power
is turned
ON, the
indicator above the switch lights.
@ PHONES Jack
This jack is for the connection of stereo
headphones with a standard 1/4" (6.35 mm)
dia. stereo phone plug.
© SPEAKERS Select Buttons
These
buttons are used to select speaker
systems A and/or B.
Note:
When a speaker system with an impedance
of less than 6 ohms is connected, do not
press the SPEAKERS
A and B buttons
simultaneously.
@ BASS/TREBLE Tone Controls
These two tone controls — BASS and TRE-
BLE — can be used to obtain a "flat" fre-
quency response or a tone which suits your
individual listening preference. The BASS
control adjusts low frequencies and the
TREBLE control adjust the high frequencies,
\f the SOURCE DIRECT button is pressed
ON, the frequency response is always flat
regardless of the settings of the BASS and
TREBLE controls.
© LOUDNESS Button
Press this switch to ON (the indicator above
the button lights) to boost the high and low
frequency
response
when
listening to the
sound at a relatively low level. Normally
set this switch to the OFF position (the
indicator goes out).
@ SOURCE DIRECT Button
When this button is pressed and the indi-
cator above
the button
lights, the signal
selected by the INPUT SELECTOR switch
is connected
to the VOLUME
control
circuit
directly,
bypassing
the
BASS,
TREBLE, BALANCE, LOUDNESS control
and
SUBSONIC
circuits
so that
higher
signal
quality
is obtained.
When
the
SOURCE
Direct mode is selected, the in-
dicator lights and only the VOLUME
control,
REC
SELECTOR
and MUTING
button are effective. This function is held
until the button is pressed again,

This switch is used to select the source of
the signals to be output from the TAPE
REC jacks on the rear panel, to be recorded.
When the REC SELECTOR switch is in the
SOURCE
position, the signal selected by

the
INPUT
SELECTOR
switch
can
be
recorded.

Turn the selector switch to choose the input
source
required
to
be
played,
among
TAPE 1/DAT, TAPE2, TUNER, CD, PHONO,
and AUX.
@ BALANCE Control
This contro!
is used to adjust the balance
between the left and right channels, Normal-
ly set to the center (click) position.
@ MUTING Button (A-X3030 only)
Press this button to momentarily reduce the
gain by -20 dB.
Note:
If this button is released when the volume
level
is too
high, the speakers
may
be
damaged, Be careful,
@® MIC Jack and MIC LEVEL Control
With the microphone plugged into this jack,
the sound picked up from the microphone
will be heard together with the source sound
selected by the INPUT SELECTOR switch,
When microphone mixing is required, plug
the microphone into the MIC jack and ad-
just the microphone input level with the
MIC LEVEL control,
Note that the sound from the MIC jack
cannot be recorded, although microphone
mixing is possible,
@® VOLUME Control
This control is used to adjust the level of the
signals output to the speaker systems and
headphones.
REAR PANEL
@® GND Terminal
Connect the ground lead of the turntable to
this terminal.
® PHONO Input Jacks
Connect a turntable with a moving magnet
(MM) cartridge to these jacks. If hum occurs
when playing records, the turntable is im-
properly grounded. In such a case, connect
the ground lead of the turntable securely
to the GND terminal,
@ TUNER Input Jacks
Connect
the output jacks of the tuner
(T-X4030, etc.) to these jacks,
@ AUX Input Jacks
Connect the audio output jacks of the VCR
to these jacks.
® COD Input Jacks
These jacks are used for the connection of
an additional high-level signal source com-
ponent such as a compact disc player, tape
deck (playback), etc. Connect the output
jacks of the component to these jacks,
