Important Safeguards
When using electrical equipment, basic safety precautions
should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric
shock and personal injury, including the following:
• Read all instructions before use.
• Remove the power cord from the unit and / or power source,
to disconnect the power, when servicing, cleaning, or for any
other reason.
• To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not immerse the
electrical equipment in water or liquids.
• See instructions for cleaning.
• Be sure the power cord supplied with your unit matches your
AC power requirements.
• Use only three-prong (earth grounded) power cords with this
unit.
• Do not operate after the equipment malfunctions or has
been damaged in any manner. Return the unit to our service
center for examination, repair, electrical or mechanical
adjustment.
• Only use the equipment for its intended purpose.
• To avoid electrical shock, do not open the housing. Refer to
qualified personnel only.
Warnings
• When handling hazardous chemicals, use appropriate hand
and eye protection.
• Weight of objects placed on the hotplate should not exceed
33lb. (15 kg).
• Do not use a vessel which is larger in diameter than the Hot
Plate surface. (5.5 inches, 140mm)
• Remember to use caution when heating and/or stirring small
diameter vessels, which could easily tip over.
• Do not use in the presence of flammable or combustible
chemicals.
• For tempering flammable liquids see page 5.
• The RH basic must not be used in areas with explosion haz-
ards.
• The instrument must be placed upon a fire-proof and/or non
flammable surface.
• Avoid contact with the hotplate, it may be hot!
Risk of burns!
The hotplate can reach temperatures in
excess of 450 °C.
