Heating
The heating function is started, controlled and stopped with
the left control knob:
• Place the magnetic bar in the vessel, and then place the
vessel in middle of the hotplate.
• Turn the left control clockwise, the amber Temp indicator
light comes on.
• Temperature control: By turning the control clockwise, the
temperature of the hotplate surface can be adjusted from 50
to 450 °C.
• To stop the Heating function, turn the Heater Control Knob
counterclockwise.
REMARKS
Heating power:
The heating power - 500 Watts - is concentrated in the center of the
hotplate. This avoids heat loss and accelerates the rise in temperature
in the beaker.
Hotplate:
The glass-ceramic surface is resistant against most media, but it can
be chipped or cracked if subjected to impacts. The ceramic plate is sur-
rounded by an aluminum frame to protect it from side impacts. If the
Hot plate surface becomes damaged in any way, discontinue use
immediately, and consult the factory for repair or replacement.
Temperature in the beaker:
Unless special reasons warrant, stirring should be used together with
heating. This improves the heat distribution in the media and avoids
retardation of boiling. For accurate automated temperature control we
recommend the use of the ETS-D4 Electronic Contact Thermometer.
You can set the desired temperature digitally and read the actual tem-
perature at any time. At the rear of the instrument is a DIN connector
for the ETS-D4. Switch off the heating function and remove the gray
Contact Plug from the DIN connector before plugging in the ETS-D4.
When using the ETS-D4, change between A, B or C mode, by first
turning the heater control-knob off, which will also turn the ETS-D4 off.
With the ETS-D4 off, press and hold down the "+" key on the ETS-D4
while turning the heater control knob fully on, then release the "+" key
on the ETS-D4 once you see the display appear. Refer to your ETS-
D4 manual for operating instructions.
Note:
When working without a contact thermometer, the gray Contact
Plug provided must be installed in the DIN connector, as the
heating function will not operate without it.
When working with a contact thermometer the heater switches off
automatically if the plug of the contact thermometer is unplugged unin-
tentionally. This is an additional safety feature.
