safe; prepare a rescue plan to handle any emergencies
that may occur while using the device; place the device/
anchor point as high as possible; minimise the height of
potential falls; use certified PPE suitable for the purpose.
In a fall arrest system, the use of a full body harness is
mandatory, which is the only device suitable for this use
and must comply with current regulations. Prolonged
suspension, especially if inert, may cause irreversible
damage and even death.
Maintenance and storage
Wash the device by hand in warm water (30-32°C) with
neutral detergent (pH 5.5-8.5) and let it air dry, avoiding
direct exposure to the sun and heat sources. Lubricate
the metal moving parts with silicone oil, avoiding contact
with any textile parts. Disinfect ther device by immersing it
(except for devices in/with parts in Dyneema® and aramid
e.g. Kevlar®) for at least 30 minutes in warm water (58-
60°C) and allow it to air dry, avoiding direct exposure to
the sun and heat sources; alternatively, place it for at
least 7 days in a well-ventilated place, avoiding direct
exposure to the sun and heat sources. Do not bleach,
do not wash in a washing machine, do not spin-dry, do
not tumble dry, do not iron and avoid sterilising textile
devices in an autoclave. Store in dry (relative humidity
40-90%), cool (temperature 5-30°C), dark, well-ventilated
places, away from sharp edges, chemicals and other
harmful conditions. Transport the device by adopting
the precautions envisaged for storage and limiting direct
exposure to sunlight.
Safety
Make sure that the device is suitable for the use defined
in the specific information: any other use is considered
non-compliant and therefore potentially dangerous. The
user's safety depends on the continuous efficiency,
integrity and resistance of the device, which must be
verified through regular periodic checks and inspections.
The user, before and after use, must carry out all the
checks described in the specific information, ensure
that the device is in efficient condition and that it works
correctly; if the user has the slightest doubt, the device
must be replaced and must be subject to inspection.
PPE inspections must be carried out, at a maximum
frequency of 12 months from the date of first use, by
inspectors (competent people) registered in the KONG
Inspectors Register which can be consulted at: www.
kong.it/en/inspector-register/ The results of the controls
and inspections must be recorded and kept by the user.
It is recommended to prepare, for each device, a card
where to record: commercial code/name, serial number,
month and year of manufacture, date of purchase and
first use, manufacturer's contact details, frequency of use
and information related to inspections (date, result, name/
