7. MAIN COMPONENTS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS
Bench Drill:
1. Spindle head – performs the drilling.
2. Belt guard – protection for moving parts (belt(s) and pulleys)
3. Sticker – indicates the drill model.
4. Column – allows the assembly of the spindle head and other components.
5. Table clamp – fixes the table and allows the adjustment of the height through
the crank.
6. Crank – adjusts the height and rotation of the table.
7. Table – used for supporting and clamping small workpieces.
8. Base – used for supporting and clamping large workpieces.
9. Electric motor with thermal protector – drives the spindle through
the pulleys and belt(s).
10. Start switch (on/off) – actuates the electric motor and has a protection de-
vice to prevent the start.
11. Depth gage – allows the adjustment of drilling depth. (Inside of thongs pro-

17. Chuck – holds the drill bit.
18. Toothed rack – component of the table height adjustment system
19. Taper shank – mounts the chuck.
20. Chuck Guard: Ensures greater operator safety during operation of the equi-
pment.
