Soldering Iron Safety
WARNING: This appliance must be placed on a suitable stand when not in use.
• This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced
physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been
given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand
the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance
shall not be made by children without supervision.
• Soldering appliances become extremely hot during use. Do not touch any part of the appliance
other than the handle.
• Keeping the soldering iron tip raised when hot between uses can help reduce transfer of heat to
the handle.
• Switch off and allow the appliance to cool completely before attempting to change any fittings.
• Do not leave this appliance unattended whilst hot.
• Heat may be conducted to hidden areas or materials near to the work area. Ensure that there are
no flammable materials in the vicinity of the work area.
• Residual heat may cause waste material to ignite, even after the appliance has been
disconnected from the power supply.
• Never use these appliances near any kind of fuel tank or gas cylinder.
• Do not use in the presence of an explosive atmosphere.
• Soldering with certain materials may result in toxic fumes. Always allow adequate ventilation. Do
not use in confined spaces.
• Some types of solder may contain high proportions of lead. Molten lead emits toxic fumes.
Always wear appropriate breathing protection.
• Lead fumes are especially toxic to children, pregnant women and people with high blood
pressure. People at high risk should not be allowed near the work area.
• Always dispose of waste material responsibly.
• Allow the tool to cool down before storage.
