Intended Use
Electrical soldering iron, featuring a variable power output. Suitable for precision use, and more
general electrical soldering.
Unpacking Your Appliance
• Carefully unpack and inspect your new appliance. Familiarise yourself with all its features and
functions.
• Ensure that all parts of the appliance are present and in good condition. If any parts are missing
or damaged, have such parts replaced before attempting to use this appliance.
Before Use
WARNING: Ensure the appliance is disconnected from the power supply before attaching or
changing any accessories, or making any adjustments.
Assembly
1. Insert the Stand Fixing Bracket (12) into either the left or right Bracket Fixing Slot (14) (Fig. I)
2. Attach the Soldering Iron Stand (5) to the Stand Fixing Bracket using the threaded knob (Fig. II)
Attaching the Soldering Iron
1. Attach the soldering iron to the left side of the soldering station via the Soldering Iron
Connector(4)
2. Remove the protective plastic from the Soldering Iron Tip (11)
3. Sit the soldering iron in the Stand with the Soldering Iron Tip pointing downward
Preparing the Sponge Cleaning Pad
1. Place the Tip Cleaning Sponge (6) in the station tray
2. Add a small amount of water to make it damp
Operation
WARNING: ALWAYS wear eye protection, adequate respiratory protection and suitable gloves,
when working with this appliance.
Soldering Station 48W
Switching ON & OFF
IMPORTANT: Check that the Soldering Iron Tip (11) is securely fitted before switching 'ON' . The
Soldering Iron Tip should be pushed into the Heating Element (9) and secured by tightening the
Tip Cover Screw (10)
1. The ON/OFF Switch (3) is located at the front of the station. To turn the soldering station 'ON' , set
the ON/OFF Switch into the 'I' position.
2. To turn the soldering station 'OFF' , set the ON/OFF Switch into the '0' position.
Note: The Soldering Iron Tip may emit smoke for a short while on first use. This is normal and is
the protective coating burning off the element. It is advisable to do this in a well-ventilated area
before regular use.
Using the soldering iron
1. Clean the Soldering Iron Tip (11) and the workpiece before soldering (see 'Cleaning' section).
2. Place the soldering iron into the Soldering Iron Stand (5). DO NOT allow the Heating Element (9)
or Soldering Iron Tip (11) to rest on any surface that may be damaged by heat.
3. Plug the soldering station into the mains power supply.
4. Switch the soldering station 'ON' , as instructed in the 'Switching ON & OFF' section. The display
on the soldering station will illuminate when switched 'ON' .
5. Select the required temperature unit (Centigrade or Fahrenheit) by pressing the Unit Selection
Button (1).
6. Set the required Tip temperature by switching the Temperature Reading/Setting Switch (13) to
the 'Set' position and adjust using the Temperature Control Dial (2).
I. Clockwise = increase temperature
II. Anticlockwise = decrease temperature
7. The set temperature will be indicated on the digital display.
8. To view the current Soldering Iron Tip temperature on the digital display, set the Temperature
Reading/Setting Switch to the 'Read' position.
Note: The temperature displayed will fluctuate slightly once the iron has heated, due to heat loss
and reheating while using.
Note: When soldering electronic components, refer to the component manufacturer's instructions
with regards to max soldering temperature.
9. Hold the Soldering Iron Tip against the wire or component to be soldered. Once hot, add solder
to the joint, then remove soldering iron.
10. Switch the solder station 'OFF' when not in use, refer to 'Switching ON & OFF' section. Store the
soldering iron in the Soldering Iron Stand when not in use.

Maintenance
WARNING: ALWAYS disconnect the tool from the power supply before cleaning or carrying out
maintenance.
• Inspect the supply cord of the appliance, prior to each use, for damage or wear. Repairs should
be carried out by an authorised Silverline service centre. This advice also applies to extension
cords used with this appliance.
Tip replacement
WARNING: ALWAYS disconnect from the power supply, and allow to fully cool, before attempting
to adjust or replace any part.
• Loosen the Tip Cover Screw (10) and remove the cover (Fig. III)
• Remove the old Soldering Iron Tip (11) from the iron
• Reassemble the iron with a new tip (Fig. IV)
Cleaning
• Disconnect from the mains supply before cleaning.
• Always clean dust and particles away. Do not allow waste to collect on any part of the tool.
