ous steps to assure that your shredder arrives in top condition. In the rare event that you do have any prob¬

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Your safety as well as the safety of others is important to GBC. In this instruction manual and on the product
are important safety messages. Read these messages carefully.

ELECTRICAL SAFEGUARDS
• Unplug your shredder before moving it, emptying the shred bag, or vyhen it is not in use for an extended
period of time.
• Do not operate with a damaged power supply cord or plug, after it malfunctions, or after it has been dam¬
aged in any manner.
• Do not overload electrical outlets beyond capacity as this can result in fire or electrical shock.
• The socket-outlet should be installed near the equipment and shall be easily accessible.
• Do not alter attachment plug. The plug is configured for the appropriate electrical supply.
DUTY CYCLE
Your shredder is designed for continuous use when shredding paper. When shredding CDs we recommend a duty cycle of
20 CDs maximum followed by a 15-minute cool off period. If you exceed that volume you may activate the motor's automatic
thermal protection. Your shredder will automatically reset and be ready for use after the cool off period.
SERVICE
Do not attempt to service or repair the unit yourself! In the rare event that your unit requires Service contact your
dealer or call GBC National Service at 1-800-790-7787.

SET UP
To insure proper installation and avoid injury, GBC recommends
that two people set up this unit.
To protect against damage, your shredder has been shipped in two
parts, the shredder head A, the cabinet B.
FIGURE 1.
Lock the casters (A) before using the machine to pre¬
vent any moving or sliding.
Open the cabinet door. Lift the shredder head by the outside edges
and place onto the cabinet.
FIGURE 2.
Remove the wire bag rim from the cabinet. Place one
large shredder bag and one small CD bag onto the rim as shown.
Slide the rim with bags back into the cabinet, close the door.
Your shredder ready for use!
MATERIALS YOU CAN SHRED
Your shredder can handle most any type of office paper documents.
You can safely shred documents containing staples, however, other
metal items may damage the shredder. The 3550X shredder will also
shred CDs using its dedicated feeding slot.
OPERATION

Connect power cord to an appropriate power source. Press the
rocker switch (A) to the on
T
position.
When the shredder is
properly set up with cabinet door fully closed, the Power On light
(B) will illuminate.
You are now ready to shred!
To shred simply insert paper into the throat of the unit. Once your
document has activated the Automatic On switch the unit will start
and then will stop once your document is shredded.
CD SHREDDING
To shred a CD, simply insert a single CD into the dedicated feeding throat and depress
the start switch (F). Shredder will stop automatically after 5 seconds of running time.
Do not feed CDs into the larger throat.
BIN FULL
S
In order to prevent shreds from backing up into the cutters and
jamming your shredder this unit features an automatic bin full shut
off. Once the shred bin is full the unit will shut off automatically
and the Bin Full light (C) will illuminate. You can now either com¬
pact the shreds and continue shredding, or empty the shred bag.
DOOR AJAR [n
Your shredder is equipped with a safety interlock which will not
allow the unit to operate if the cabinet door is open. The Door Ajar
light (D) will illuminate if your cabinet door is not fully closed.
OVERLOAD 8V
If too much paper is inserted into the throat of the unit the shredder
will sense an overload and the Overload Light (E) v;ill illuminate.
The shredder will switch to reverse mode automatically to clear
the paper of the throat area. Separate your pages into smaller sets,
switch your unit back into the Power on position and shred.
