Risks related to the work environment
-
Slips, loss of balance and falls are the leading causes of workplace injuries. Remain vigilant regarding
surfaces made slippery by use of the machine and loss of balance caused by air lines or hydraulic
hoses.
-
Proceed with caution in unfamiliar environments. Unseen hazards may be present, such as those
related to electricity or other wiring.
-
Tool grinders are not intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and are generally not
insulated in the event of contact with a power supply.
-
Make sure that no electrical cables, gas pipes, etc. are exposed. which could cause a dangerous
phenomenon is damaged by the use of the machine.
-
Remove any rags, clothing, rope, string or the like from near the work area.
-
Do not use in confined spaces and ensure that hands are not crushed between the tool and the
workpiece.
1.2.6.
Dust and smoke hazards
-
Dust and fumes generated by the use of the tool grinder can affect health (e.g. cancers, congenital
anomalies, asthma and/or dermatoses ); Risk assessment and implementation of appropriate controls
for these hazardous phenomena are crucial.
-
The risk assessment should take into account dust resulting from the use of the machine and the
potential for volatility of existing dust.
-
Operate and maintain the tool grinder as advised in the instruction manual to minimize dust or smoke
emissions.
-
Direct discharge gases to minimize dust movement in dusty environments.
-
If dust or fumes are produced, the priority should be to control them at the point of emission.
-
All integrated functions or accessories for the collection, extraction or suppression of ambient dust or
fumes should be properly used and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
-
Select, maintain and replace the consumable/tool as advised in the instruction manual to prevent
unnecessary additional dust or smoke generation.
-
Use respiratory protection in accordance with the employer's instructions and as required by
occupational safety and health regulations.
-
Working with certain materials creates dust and smoke emissions, creating a potentially explosive
environment.
