1 Properties and range of use of the Viscosity Measuring Unit
ViscoClock
The Viscosity Measuring Unit ViscoClock,an electronic, automatic flow-time meter, can be used in combi-
nation with a SI Analytics GmbH Ubbelohde-, a Micro Ubbelohde and a Micro Ostwald viscometer for the
automatic measurement of the flow time of a liquid at temperatures from- 40 °Cup to a maximum of + 150
°C.
The Viscosity Measuring Unit ViscoClock automatically measures the time which a liquid requires to flow
from the upper to the lower measurement mark of the measurement bulb through the capillaries of a SI
Analytics GmbH viscometer.
The device can be used for any transparent liquid for which the viscometer is suitable according to its op-
erating instructions.
The relevant regulations regarding the handling of the substances used have to be observed: The
decree on hazardous matters, the Chemicals Act and the rules and information of the chemicals
trade.
For the measurement of the relative viscosity, all calibrated or uncalibrated DIN, ISO, ASTM, Micro Ub-
belohde and Micro Oswald viscometers can be used.
For the determination of the kinematic (absolute) viscosity, only SI Analytics GmbH viscometers, calibrat-
ed for automatic measurements, can be used. As a principle, the measurement of the flow time should be
performed in a transparent SI Analytics GmbH thermostat bath in which the Viscosity Measuring Unit Vis-
coClock is fixed by the manual measurement insert of the bath and which is suitable for the intended tem-
perature range (product Information: SI Analytics GmbH thermostats).
The following tempering liquids (tempering range: - 40 to + 150 °C) are permitted (→ operating instruc-
tions for the SI Analytics GmbH transparent thermostats):
- Water
- Alcohol water (e.g. ethanol, methanol)
- Glycerine
- Paraffin oil
- Silicone oil
- Glycol
Si Analytics recommend the use of silicone oils as tempering liquids for temperature ranges above 90 °C.
There is no experience on hand as to the use of the Viscosity Measuring Unit ViscoClock for other pur-
poses or for its use with other tempering liquids!
Misuse prohibited
The Viscosity Measuring Unit ViscoClock must not be used for other work than the above-mentioned. The
manufacturer will not be liable for damaged resulting from such use.
Requirements for the user's staff
The Viscosity Measuring Unit ViscoClock must only be used by authorized persons whose training or
knowledge and experience ensure proper operation of the device and who are informed about the dan-
gers. On the part of the user it has to be ensured that the persons entrusted with the use of the Viscosity
Measuring Unit ViscoClock are experts in the handling of substances used in the environment and in the
ViscoClock or that they are supervised by specialized persons, respectively.
