2. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

As its name indicates, the RS-60 sound level recorder measures and records the sound
pressure level inside the room in which it is installed. The RS-60 consists of a central
recording unit and a sensor developed on the basis of the technology used in the
manufacture of
sound level meters.
The central recording unit of the RS-60 stores the information measured by the sensor and
any incidents that may have occurred. The RS-60 allows you to programme the periodicity
with which this information is stored (from 1 minute to 1 hour in 1-minute steps). The RS-60
memory stores the data measured over a minimum period of 2 months (when the periodicity
of programmed data storage is of 1 minute).
The RS-60 is equipped with an internal battery that allows it to continue functioning even
when disconnected from the mains. The battery lasts for one week. Before it runs out, the
RS-60 records the day and time that this occurs. When the battery runs out, the RS-60
automatically turns itself off. The stored data is retained. When the unit is reconnected to the
mains, the RS-60 continues to function as normal.
The RS-60 is equipped with a luminous indicator showing that the unit is connected to the
mains and with two indicators that evaluate the measured sound level. This evaluation may
be programmed from between 2 and 180 seconds. It is possible to connect the RS-60 to an
illuminated remote display (DL-SE), which allows you to observe the measured sound
pressure level together with the evaluation of this level from any point in the establishment.
The information recorded by the RS-60 may be retrieved directly from the parallel port by
connecting the port to a printer. It may also be retrieved by serial connection to a computer.
With the assistance of the REL-2 relay box, the RS-60 may be converted into a sound limiter.
The REL-2 relay box is connected to the remote display output on the front panel of the RS-
60. The REL-2 is equipped with two switches (relays) with which it is possible to activate or
deactivate any apparatus either controlled or fed by an electric signal. Whenever the sound
pressure level exceeds the limit programmed for each of the two switches (pre-alarm and
alarm) (Limit
> Limit
), these switches for a set switching time. Under normal
alarm
pre-alarm
conditions, the two relays will never switch simultaneously, and the alarm switch will have
priority. When the DL-SE remote display is connected to the REL-2 relay box, it will show the
same information as when it is connected directly to the RS-60. The RS-60 is programmed
by serial connection to a personal computer, using the appropriate software (available for
