Use Requirements
It is recommended that the viability of any installation should be verified by a sui-
tably qualified person. Extreme care should be taken when using this product near
harmful chemicals, moving machinery, electrical hazards and near sharp edges and
abrasive surfaces. Wet and icy con-ditions may cause the rope to become slippery.
Testing
All testing for this device has been carried out using EN1891 approved ropes
Ø10.5mm - 11.5mm rope. Suitable for rescue loads up to 240kg.
Modifications, repair
There are no serviceable parts on the D4™ except for the handle and large cam.
If required, repair or replacement of these items should only be carried out by the
manufacturer or its recognised repair agent.
Installation (I)
The D4 should be used with an anchor point/system conforming with EN795 or in
accordance with ANSI Z359.1 (07), or any other specific recognised International
Standard or industry Best Practice relating to the specific use, or a non-enginee-
red anchor point capable of withstanding appropriate loads. It is recommended
that any anchor point be above the user and that the viability of any installation
should be verified by a suitably qualified person. The rope path is identified on the
rear of the device as well as on the rope cam. The rope must be attached to the
device following the route of the markings. When inserting the rope, it is easier
if the cam is held 'open' to increase the gap between the cam and top bobbin, to
allow the rope to be fed through. Slack in the anchor line between the user and
the anchor should be avoided.
Operational check (II)
Before each use, verify the correct installation of the rope. With the handle in
STOP position, carry out a pre-pull test to ensure the device does not slip down
the rope. The device should still be able to travel UP the rope. Move the handle
to the PRIMED position and whilst putting your weight on the rope, but in a safe
situation, rotate the handle to allow the device to move. En-sure the movement
can be controlled and is smooth.
Ensure the device is attached directly to your load bearing harness attachment
point using a locking karabiner.
When the adjustable anchor line is loaded by the full weight of the user, this
becomes a working line. The primary function of the D4 is progression along the
working line. Ensure that you have a fully functional backup device on a separate
rope – this is not always required in rescue or intervention. The D4 is not suitable
for use in an EN363 fall arrest system.
Use (III)
To control the device in descent, your left hand is used to position the handle, and
your right hand is used on the trailing length of rope to give you extra security and
fine adjustments of speed control. If in the situation that you pull the handle too far
the device will STOP. To RESET the device rotate the handle clockwise, in the direc-
tion of the arrows. This will allow you to continue to DESCEND. All rope adjustment
de-vices create heat when travelling along rope at speed, which can cause damage
to the rope. Always check the rope for damage as well as the device.
Storage & Transportation
The product should be stored in a clean, dry environment away from exposure to
UV, corrosive or chemical substances or extreme heat sources. Care should be
