Using the oxygen self-rescuer
WARNING
!
Keep the oxygen self-rescuer away from combustible substances
(petrol, grease, solvents, etc.) before or during use to prevent a
potential risk of fire!
Destroying the oxygen self-rescuer can result in a potential risk of
ignition if the oxygen-abstracting chemical comes into contact with
combustible substances such as charcoal.
Regularly practice using the oxygen self-rescuer with a training device
The oxygen self-rescuer might be difficult to open in cold weather
conditions, and especially at minus temperatures.
Only open the oxygen self-rescuer when using it!
Otherwise moisture from the ambient air will flow into the open oxygen self-
rescuer and impair its function.
Opened devices cannot be closed again. They are considered used and
must be disposed of, not stored, see section 7 on page 10.
Check the oxygen self-rescuer prior to carrying/daily see section 3.3 on
page 8.
Use the oxygen self-rescuer only once.
3.3

Preparation for use

The following work steps must be performed every day. If one of the criteria listed
is not met, the oxygen self-rescuer must not be used.
NOTICE
i
i
If the oxygen self-rescuer suffered unusual strain (blows, pressure,
etc.), the checks mentioned should be carried out immediately.
In the following cases, the oxygen self-rescuer may be repaired by trained
personnel:
If the oxygen self-rescuer is worn with a shoulder harness or hand strap,
check that they are locked onto the support ring. If the carrying strap is
frayed or damaged, it must be replaced.
Make sure that the viewing window is not damaged. A damaged viewing
window must be replaced.
In the following cases, the oxygen self-rescuer must be taken out of service or
sent to Dräger for inspection.
Check that the oxygen self-rescuer is complete.
Check that the sealing tag is not damaged.
Check that the housing is closed.
Check that the opening mechanism is locked and undamaged.
Check the housing for deformations (see supplementary sheet).
Ensure that the housing does not have any tears or holes.
Check the viewing window: If numerous yellow fragments, the same size or
larger than grains of sugar, can be shaken in the viewing window area, the
oxygen self-rescuer must be decommissioned.
An adhesive, thin yellow dust layer is normal after years of carrying and
does not affect the function.

Check if the moisture indicator
(1) is brown. If moisture has
penetrated into the oxygen self-
rescuer, the moisture indicator
changes
from
turquoise.
If the oxygen self-rescuer is fitted
with the optional heat indicator:
Check if the heat indicator (2) is
light-coloured.
The
indicator's colour will turn dark if
the device has been exposed to
too much heat.
