1. Storage
Store Vented Disc Filter Capsules in a clean and dry environment and avoid placing heavy objects
on top of the box. Capsules should not be stored at temperatures below 5°C (41°F) or above 30°C (86°F) or in
direct sunlight.
1.1 The shelf-life for Vented Disc Filter Capsules is as follows:
Membrane capsules (PROPOR ranges)
Depth filter capsules (PROCLEAR ranges)
2. Operating Conditions
Liquid:
Maximum 2 barg (29 psig) @ 60°C (140°F)
Gas:
Maximum 5 barg @ ambient, intermittently for bubble point testing
WARNING: If Capsules are used outside these operating conditions or with fluids that are not compatible
with the materials of construction then the product body may fail and result in injury to the operator or
damage to equipment.
3. Installation and Operation
Please ensure that the Vented Disc Filter Capsule you have chosen is compatible with the fluid and system
before installation and check that the product type etched on the top of the capsule is as required.
NB: If the Vented Disc Filter Capsule is to be used in a sterile process please ensure that the capsule
is either sterilized using gamma irradiation or autoclaved prior to use. Vented Disc Filter Capsules cannot be
steam sterilized in-situ.
3.1 Note the etching on the Vented Disc Filter Capsule denoting "INLET" and ensure that the capsule is
installed in the correct direction and using the appropriate connections.
3.2 Before passing liquid through the capsule ensure that the vent valve is closed and the capsule is mounted
and connected securely in a vertical orientation. It is important that the capsule is full of liquid during
operation, so ensure that it is mounted so that the air can be vented in a safe manner.
3.3 The capsule can be vented by turning the vent nut in an anti-clockwise direction. Do not undo the nut by
more than 2 complete turns as it can be fully unscrewed from the capsule body. This may result in escape
of liquid from within the capsule and / or injury to the operator.
3.4 If the capsule is connected into a pressurized system, make sure that the system pressures do not exceed
the maximum operating conditions at any time.
4. Integrity Testing
Vented Disc Filter Capsule formats from the PROPOR range of products can be integrity tested using the
bubble point method. Integrity test parameters are published in the product support documentation. If
required, please contact Parker or its representative for further information on the most appropriate method
and equipment
5. Sterilization
5.1 Vented Disc Filter Capsules can be gamma irradiated at a dosage of up to 50kGy.
5.2 Vented Disc Filter Capsules can be autoclaved for 1 cycle at 130°C (266°F) for maximum 30 mins.
WARNING: The vent / drain valves should be left open during the autoclave cycle
WARNING: DO NOT STEAM STERILIZE VENTED DISC FILTERS IN-SITU!
6. Disposal
All Vented Disc Filter Capsules should be disposed of in a safe manner in line with local authority and
appropriate health and safety guidelines.
If it is considered necessary to sterilize the capsule before disposal then the product will support an additional
autoclave cycle.
