4.2 | Removal

Once you have established that the new throttle tube is suitable, you can remove
the old one. Begin by undoing the right end of the original handlebar. For this you
will definitely need sufficient leverage, as the screw connection is often stuck
tight. It is best to unscrew cross-head screws with an impact driver. If you do not
have one, a couple of sharp taps with a hammer on a cross-head screwdriver that
fits the screw exactly and then applying a constant force should help to loosen
the screw.
If you intend to re-use the rubber grip, you will need to remove it from the old
throttle tube. A professional would blow compressed air between the rubber
and the handlebar. At home you can just as well squirt a little dishwashing
liquid or brake cleaner (please no oil, petrol or other fuels) under the grip using a
disposable syringe. If the rubber grip has been glued to the throttle tube, simply
remove grip and tube together and later fit a new rubber grip.
IMPORTANT!
Risk of damage!
Brake cleaner can dissolve sponge or foam rubber grips, so you
should only use a mild solution of washing-up liquid to release
the grip from the tube.
Slacken off the throttle cable adjuster(s) a little at the lever assembly and unhook
the cables to enable you to remove the original throttle tube from the handlebar.

4.3 | Installation

Wipe off any old grease on the handlebar. Then regrease your handlebar and the
throttle cable retainer to keep the throttle sliding smoothly. Press the throttle
tube onto the handlebar and insert the cables. Check once more that the throttle
cables are routed correctly and the nipples are securely seated in the retainers.
If you discover any wear to the throttle cables, they must be replaced. Adjust
the throttle cable adjuster on the lever assembly so that the throttle cable has a
little play (even when the steering is at full lock). The throttle cable must not be
continuously under tension under any circumstances. Then close the housing
and tighten the screws. Next, fit a rubber grip and the handlebar end. To finish,
test the twistgrip to make sure it functions perfectly and smoothly. The throttle
must never stick – this would jeopardise the safety of the rider and other road
users. It must turn smoothly without sticking in any way, and the twistgrip must
spring back fully when you release it.

5 | Storage

If you are not installing the throttle tube immediately, store it in the original
packaging in a frost-free, dark room.

6 | Cleaning and care

The throttle tube can be cleaned with a rag and re-greased inside and on the
cable retainer. Do not use solvents or cleaners which damage plastic when
cleaning your throttle tube.

further inwards on the handlebar. If that doesn't help,
check that the throttle tube is fitted inside the lever
assembly so as to allow free movement, the throttle cables
are correctly inserted, and the cables are undamaged.

If the diameter of the tube is too large, you will need to
carefully sand it down so that it fits the throttle grip.
