EMERGENCY SUMP PUMP
1. Be sure that this installation meets all code require-
ments that apply.
2. Disconnect power (unplug) the primary sump pump
before installing, working on, or servicing the
Emergency Sump Pump.
3. The Emergency Sump Pump requires a city water
source with a minimum pressure of 40 pounds per
square inch (psi). The inlet pipe should be at least
3/4" in diameter.
4. The Emergency Sump Pump is designed as an auxil-
iary back-up sump pump for private residences in
case of primary sump pump failure or a power out-
age. It is not designed for and should not be used as a
primary sump pump.
5. Clean the Emergency Sump Pump regularly.
MATERIALS:
Copper, plastic or galvanized pipe and fittings (as appro-
priate to the house's plumbing) to extend the city water
line to the installation site for the Emergency Sump Pump.
Pipe solvents, pipe cements, or solder, and pipe joint
compounds or teflon tape (as appropriate to the house's
plumbing).
1-1/4" hose coupling, 1-1/4" plastic pipe (as needed),
Y-fitting, and a 45° elbow for the discharge line from the
Emergency Sump Pump.

NOTE: If the primary pump discharges to a hose, replace
the hose with rigid plastic pipe when you install the
Emergency Sump Pump.
NOTE: BE SURE that there is a functioning check valve
(one-way valve) in the discharge of the primary sump
pump. This is necessary to prevent the Emergency Sump
Pump from pumping up through the discharge pipe,
back down through the primary sump pump, and filling
the sump.
TOOLS:
Screwdrivers
Hacksaw (for cutting pipe)
Knife
Round file (to deburr the pipe ends after cutting)
Pipe wrench(es) and/or slip joint pliers.
If you are running copper pipe for the city water exten-
sion, you will need a propane torch plus soldering mate-
rials. Keep a charged fire extinguisher at hand whenever
you are soldering with a torch.
Keep a charged fire extinguisher at hand whenever you
are soldering with a torch and be sure that your work
area is clear of inflammable debris, rags, etc.. If you are
not experienced at soldering with a torch, call a licensed
plumber to install copper pipe.
