Laying the wires and assembling the charging relay
1.
Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.
2.
Insert the 3-pin plug shell into the 13-pin Westfalia electrical system for trailer couplings (behind
boot covering) and secure it in place.
3.
Insert the contacts of the red wire and the enclosed red short wire into the enclosed fuse holder.
Connect the fuse clips and the blue 15 amp flat fuse and attach the plastic cover.
4.
At a suitable, splash-proof location near the battery, mount the charging relay using the enclosed
screws, split rings and nuts (if necessary, drill a 5.5 mm diameter hole, apply an anti-corrosive
agent and let dry), so that the connections point downwards.
5.
Assemble the plug contact of the enclosed charging relay as follows:
Pin 30 = enclosed short red single wire, other side has a ring eyelet.
Pin 85 = enclosed long red-black single wire, connect other side via the ring eyelet to a suitable
earth point.
Pin 86 = enclosed long black single wire, connect other side to a suitable +15 using the duraseal
methodology.
Pin 87 = connect yellow wire.
6.
Identify a suitable +15 (positive via ignition lock; ensure that +15 is ready during the start process
and is not interrupted by a discharging relay), using the duraseal methodology connect the black
single wire.
7.
Connect the red wires with the ring eyelets to the battery positive, the brown wires with the ring
eyelets to the battery negative and the red-black wire to a suitable earth.
8.
Fasten all wires with cable ties to existing cable mountings ensuring that the wires can not be
trapped or chaffed.
Replace coverings and disassembled parts.
9.
Reconnect earthing wire to the battery and check for proper functioning using a suitable testing
instrument or trailer.
The newly installed 3-pin wire lane is connected to the 13-pin socket as follows:
Red wire
Yellow wire
Brown wire
Note
The earthing wires of the 13-pin trailer socket (contact no. 3 and 13) does not transmit electricity to the
trailer!
