MINIMUM FLOW RATE

The operation of the pump at a lower level than the minimum flow rate allowed can cause excessive overheating
and damage to the pump.
The pump must never operate against a closed delivery valve.

Site Selection

• Install the pump in an accessible place, protected against frost and as close as possible to the water
suction point.
• Make sure that the pump is in a vertical position; adjust as necessary with the proper shims.
• The pump must be fastened securely with bolts to a concrete foundation or equivalent metal structure. For
large-sized units that need to be installed near rooms inhabited by people, suitable vibration-damping supports
should be provided to prevent the transmission of vibrations from the pump to the reinforced concrete structure.
• Make sure that no obstructions or obstacles hinder the normal flow of the cooling air delivered by the motor fan.
Make sure that there is adequate clearance around the pump for maintenance access. Raise the pump slightly
from the level of the floor whenever possible.
• The base of the pump indicates, by means of arrows, the inlet and outlet direction of the pumped fluid. There
are arrows on the pump shell indicating the direction of motor rotation.
• Discharge and suction piping should be no smaller than the pump opening connection and should be kept as
short as possible, avoid unnecessary fittings to minimize friction losses.
• Avoid unnecessary stresses on the pump body by placing support brackets (see fig. 1.7) in order to support
the suction and discharge pipe. Do not place any piping loads on the pump.
• Avoid air blows affecting pump operation, with an inclination of the incoming pipes not lower than 2%. Protect
the pump against possible water hammer by means of a check valve (bottom valve). Install a shut-off valve
upstream and downstream of the pump in order to allow isolation in case of maintenance and disassembly.
