Troubleshooting Guide
If the engine malfunctions, carefully examine the symptoms and the operating condi-
tions, and use the table below as a guide to troubleshooting.

Fault Piston, Cylinder and

Over-rich fuel/air mixture
Clogged air cleaner
Faulty carburetor
Incorrect grade/type of fuel
Water in fuel
Faulty spark plug
Faulty ignition coil
Engine switch left in "O"
position
Clogged air cleaner
Recoil starter or cooling air path
clogged with dirt.
Carbon built-up in combustion
chamber
Poor ventilation around engine
Remedy
K
Tighten properly.
Fill fuel tank.
Clean.
K
Turn enrichment lever to "Starting" position.
Pull recoil starter grip with spark plug
removed to discharge excess fuel.
Clean spark plug.
Clean.
K
Change fuel.
Replace spark plug.
K
Turn engine switch to "l" position.
Clean.
K
Select a better location.
