camera's operating instructions to find out which functions are sup-

2 Preparing the flash unit for use

2.1 Mounting the flash unit

Simultaneous operation of the 44 AF-4 O flash unit with a flash unit
built into the camera is permissible only when the camera's flash unit
can be completely folded out to its working position. Otherwise the
camera's flash unit may be damaged when shooting pictures.

2.1.1 Mounting the flash unit on the camera

Before mounting or removing, turn off the camera and the flash unit.
• Turn the knurled nut
(Fig.2) against the flash unit's housing until the stop
point is reached. The locking pin in the shoe is now fully retracted into the
housing.
• Slide the flash unit's foot completely into the camera's accessory shoe.
• Turn the knurled nut
(Fig.2) against the camera body as far as possible,
thereby clamping the flash unit. If the camera does not have a locking hole
the spring-loaded locking pin retracts into the flash unit's housing so that it
does not damage the surface.

2.1.2 Removing the flash unit from the camera

Before mounting or removing, turn off the camera and the flash unit.
• Turn the knurled nut
(Fig.2) against the flash unit's housing until the stop
point is reached.
• Withdraw the flash unit from the camera's accessory shoe.

2.2 Power supply

2.2.1 Suitable batteries

The flash unit can be operated with any of the following batteries.:
• 4 NiCad batteries, type IEC KR6 (size AA). They permit very fast recycling
and are economical in use because they are rechargeable.
