*See section "Disassembly and assembly cautions"
In the event of breakdown or worsening pump
performance, establish the cause and rectify the fault.
Ideally, repairs should be carried out in a workshop.

Whenever pump is disassembled, clean out ball
♦
bearings and clean old grease from all other parts.
Using recommended grease, repack bearings,
coat governor parts, and coat all parts between
lower end plate and impeller.
Remove pipe plug (1) in pump housing and fill
grease cavity (2) with recommended grease. Do
not fit a grease nipple, doing so will pressurize
the cavity and damage the seals.
NOTICE
Automotive water pump grease is
designed for use with hot water and is too hard
for use in pump operating in cold liquids.
When replacing new shaft seals, the inner seal
♦
must seat against shoulder of motor housing; the
outer seal must press flush with motor housing.
If the shaft seals are replaced due to leakage, the
impeller sleeve (5) must be replaced as well.
When reassembling the pump, there should be a
♦
clearance of 0.007 in. to 0.012 in. (0.18 to 0.30
mm) between angular faces of the lower wear
plate (3) and the impeller (4). If the clearance
exceeds 0.012 in. (0.30 mm), add the appropriate
thickness of shims under the lower wear plate.
Insure that the shims slots are aligned with the
three knockout holes in the pump housing.
When assembling motor into motor housing, the
♦
upper end plate must protrude above the motor
housing between 0.001 in. and 0.003 in. (0.03
to 0.08 mm). If not, add shims as required.
