Perform jobs when the engine has cooled down to prevent possible burns.
-
Never exceed the yellow area on the cooling system tester to prevent any damage
to the cooling circuit system.
A) Remove the radiator cap and clean away any deposits from the gasket seats.
Fit the test cap suitable for the type of connection on the radiator:
1) Screw cap car connection (fig. 1)
Select the correct cap (g) and screw it onto the union while always making sure the gasket
is correctly positioned. Connect the radiator tester to the cap by means of the quick
coupling (e) at the end of the hose. Make sure the quick coupling (e) is correctly positioned
and that the anti-detachment mechanism (h) is engaged.
2) Bayonet cap car connection (fig. 2)
Choose the size of the cap (a) most suitable for the radiator to be tested. Screw the cap (a) up
onto the winged support (b). Fasten the two metal wings of the connector on the union and
turn the upper knob (c) so as to provide a good seal. Connect the adapter for quick coupling
(d). Connect the radiator tester to the cap by means of the quick coupling (e) at the end of the
hose. Make sure the quick coupling (e) is properly positioned and that the anti-detachment
mechanism (h) is engaged.
3) Connection for Asian cars with bayonet cap (fig. 3)
Choose the size of the metal cap (f) most suitable for the radiator to be tested. Fit the Ø30 cap
(a) in the central hole. Screw the cap (a) up onto the winged support (b). Fasten the two metal
wings of the connector (b) to the metal cap (f). Fasten the metal cap (f) to the union and turn
the upper knob (c) so as to provide a good seal. Connect the adapter for quick coupling (d).
Connect the radiator tester to the cap by means of the quick coupling (e) at the end of the
hose. Make sure the quick coupling (e) is properly positioned and that the anti-detachment
mechanism (h) is engaged.
B) Pump until value 1 is reached on the instrument dial. If the hand of the instrument remains
immobile for about 1 minute, then you can be certain that the entire circuit is in perfect
order; if it drops, this means the circuit is leaking; such leak can be easily identified by the
escaping water. If the pressure gauge drops and no liquid leaks are found, check the
engine head gasket for wear.
C) End of test (fig. 4): release the pressure by means of the button (k) on the quick coupling
(e). Disconnect the quick coupling (e) by pressing the tang on the anti-detachment mechanism
(h) and at the same time pull the quick coupling (e) upwards. Store the appliance after cleaning
it and removing any liquid or dirt.
Important. The wrong position of the bonnet prop could cause the bonnet to
slam shut.
Be careful to make sure scarves, ties and other items of loose clothing do not
become accidentally trapped in moving parts; this could result in dragging
with serious consequences for the wearer.
When the engine is hot, proceed carefully inside the engine compartment:
danger of burns. Remember that when the engine is hot, the electric fan
could switch on: injury hazard. Wait for the engine to cool down.
When the engine is very hot, never take the cap of the container: danger of
burns.
